What does everyone think of a music play-off bracket-type poll for best songs of the '80s?
TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Hobbies; Miscellaneous; Music/Entertainment
KEYWORDS: 1980s; 80s; 80smusic; americana; billboard; culture; eighties; mtv; music; nineteeneighties; nostalgia; popculture; popmusic; rock; rockroll

I've participated in a rather random 64-song bracket before, a very long time ago. It was fun.
But, I do not want to randomly pick songs. I was incensed that a basically no-name song won that poll over a year-end #1. So, I would start with rock-solid year-toppers, to truly represent the '80s (as far as MOST people know them and MOST people like them, I do not care about the fringe element). But the order could end up different from that posed by Billboard.
Anyone in? We could create a ping to ensure everyone who is interested is notified of round results and new rounds, etc. (This would not exclude anyone from voting, just ensure many people would vote.)

I don’t know. We’re there even 64 listenable songs in the ‘80’s?

Sounds like fun.
IMO music peaked in the 80’s.

I dont know. Were there even 64 listenable songs in the 80s? Journey had at least half that number.
I'm sure a few other artists could help.

OK, so, no one must participate.
How about just those with any interest in music, in the ‘80s giving their opinion on a poll? ;-)

I disagree. But about half of the ‘90s stunk although there was still some good stuff. Country was great in the ‘90s.
I would love to do play-offs on EVERY decade I could, because I just love music, period.
It’s just that the ‘80s IS “my era” and I still love the music then, even if I spent half my time listening to the oldies stations (at the time)!
So, if you want, we could progress to other decades, too. ;-)

Journey.....gag.
did they ever reach puberty?
and their roots are neither blues nor rockabilly.

Stevie Ray Vaughn had 64 good songs, but that’s about it for the 80’s.

Oh heck yeah there was.
The Cars, The Police, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, Robert Palmer, and ZZ Top just to name a few who had excellent songs in the 80’s.

So, if you want, we could progress to other decades, too. ;-)It's really hard to do many decades.
By the time you get to the 70's era, the dementia starts setting in, causing those from that era to say and do really goofy things.

Def Leppards' Hysteria had 12 great songs on it.
I don't know how many CD's I've gone through.
