ETOWAH, N.C. -- A 79-year-old woman is in the hospital after she says she was attacked by three dogs as she worked in her yard.
According to deputies, the attack happened Friday morning, after the dogs' shock collars for their invisible fence failed.

Had an electronic dog fence once. Worked great for our toy puddle as long as nothing distracted her. If she saw something outside the “fence” that caught her full attention like a rabbit, another dog or the postman and she got up a full head of steam ... the electronic fence was not a barrier.
Invisible fence is NEVER to be used with larger dogs. An idiot that own 3 dogs ought to know that. And even with little dogs, it is only for assistance, a person should still be monitoring the dog(s).
This sort of moronic lack of responsibility by the owner is criminal.
Where in the world do all these F-tards get the idea that an invisible fence is a serious fence substitute? My daughter has a couple of decent sized dogs and even with a chain link fence, she does not leave them in the yard unattended.
A Ruger LCP, in practiced hands, stops most of this nonsense.
Just ask Rick Perry.
Invisible fences might be okay to prevent a dog from getting in the vegetable patch but I would never use it as the sole barrier to outside of the property.
Not only can dogs get outside the barrier but what’s to prevent another dog or coyote to enter the property and attack the dog with a shock collar on?
Great point. Got rid of the electronic fence and put up a real one.
Keep the electronic fence and put up a real one. The big advantage is that some dogs will constantly "test" a real fence, looking for a weak point to escape. The electronic fence keeps them back 4-6' from the real fence. This eliminates the constant testing and makes the real one effective even if there might be a point or two the dog could get under/over/through given enough time.
How silent is the FR Pitbull Patrol when the attackers are not Pitbulls! Too disappointed to write a comment, I suppose.
Something is wrong with this story.
A hound mix, a black lab, and a beagle mix.
