Great point. Got rid of the electronic fence and put up a real one.

Keep the electronic fence and put up a real one. The big advantage is that some dogs will constantly "test" a real fence, looking for a weak point to escape. The electronic fence keeps them back 4-6' from the real fence. This eliminates the constant testing and makes the real one effective even if there might be a point or two the dog could get under/over/through given enough time.
