Leo Hindery Jr: the Man Behind Guns & Ammo Mag, Sportsman Channel is Democrat Fundraiser

AmmoLand Gun News

Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)- Leo Hindery Jr. is a Democrat-fundraiser and donor whose private equity firm owns InterMedia Outdoors, which publishes Guns & Ammo magazine and the Sportsman Channel.

His equity firm also publishes Rifle Shooter, Shooting Times, and Handguns.

According to Politico, Hindery “personally contributed more than $1 million to the Democratic National Committee Campaign under [former Senate majority leader] Tom Daschle’s (D) leadership.” He was a top fundraiser for Daschle and “a top supporter of former Sen. John Edward’s White House bid.”

In November 2013, The New York Times listed Hindery, George Soros, and Rob Reiner, as part of a group of donors who signed a letter asking Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) to reform laws to make all state elections publicly funded. NYT then quoted Brigham Young University political scientist David B. Magleby as saying, “These are the kinds of donors a Cuomo candidacy for presidency will need.”

Earlier in 2013 the NYT asked Hindery his views on the reform of gun laws and he said: “I believe in appropriate restrictions–that’s just my personal view.”

Story in Daily Caller last year:

Employees: Obama donor in process of buying up and ‘destroying’ America’s top pro-gun media outlets

11:42 PM 02/28/2013

Patrick Howley
Political Reporter

Employees of Obama donor Leo Hindery Jr.’s media conglomerate Intermedia Partners, which now owns most of the top gun-culture media outlets in the country, believe that Hindery plans to gut and destroy all of them as part of a business plan that has already led to numerous layoffs and the virtual shuttering of prominent television production facilities in Minnesota and Montana.

Hindery, who was in consideration to be President Barack Obama’s secretary of commerce, is managing partner of Intermedia Partners. The New York-based media private equity fund owns Intermedia Outdoor Holdings, which publishes 17 hunting, fishing, and shooting magazines, including Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Gun Dog, Rifle Shooter and Shooting Times.

I don’t read any of the ‘gun’ magazines. I figured out a long time ago it is near impossible to read an unbiased review of any given gun because of writer/manufacturer/advertiser influence.

Additionally, I am not impressed one iota at how so many manufacturers bandy the word ‘tactical’ around as if it instantly makes a shooter Rambo or something.

Car magazines are the same way. I do not waste time or money on either one.

There goes the purchase of any of those magazines! So, every time you buy a gun mag you’re supporting a liberal anti-gun Obama fundraiser?

5 tycoons who want to close the wealth gap
Hannah Dreier, AP Business Writer 4:47 p.m. EST February 23, 2014
“A managing partner of the media industry private equity fund InterMedia Partners, Hindery was previously chief executive of AT&T Broadband and of the YES Network, the cable channel of the Yankees. He says he’s turned down raises to ensure that he never makes more than 20 times the salary of his employees. He is also one of the biggest Democratic fundraisers in the nation.”

Chicago Cubs

“Hindery was named as one of the finalists in the bidding for the Chicago Cubs in a partnership with private equity investor Marc Utay.[5] The team was eventually sold to a family trust of TD Ameritrade founder J. Joseph Ricketts, with his son Tom operating the team on a daily basis. The Ricketts family live and work in the Chicago, Illinois area.” Wikipedia

For a Democrapic “financial donor”, poor, ickle collectivist seems not to understand the world in which he lives. Why invest in something being replaced by technology?

I grew up reading outdoor magazines and hunting and fishing magazines. Now, with the Internet, I only read such magazines while waiting at the dentist, and sometimes I find the articles as distasteful as the needle I know is waiting for me behind the doors of said dentist’s office.

With the advent of the Internet forum, a vast array of data is available, and often it is a two way source with rapid feedback.

Whether I need data about how to fix an early AMT .380 for a friend who found his little pocket gun to have developed the distressing habit or requiring the trigger to be pulled forward before it would fire the next round, or a 1994 F350 A/C system with an irregular shutdown issue - the data to deal with just about anything is on the net and free. Did I remember to say net data IS FREE! ! !

Why pay for out of date data, without feedback capability, and with no ability to expand further on any part of that magazine article?

Let me use vehicle repair as an example. A Chilton’s manual is a pitifully limited resource when dealing with most vehicle issues. Use the 2005 Safari AWD van as an example, virtually any aspect of repair or modification(and there is a small industry serving that interest) is available at Astro/Safari.com AND the data is far more detailed, and supported by images too expensive to print in a Chilton’s type service book.

IMHO, the Democrap who bought those gun magazines is going to see happening to that investment what happened to newspapers.

Got extinction? Newspaper owners do, and the Democrap under discussion just bought lots of it, too.

;-)

It seems so. Plus you save yourself the expensive lesson about buying guns that are lemons. I can think of at least two that have RAVE reviews but are absolute nonworking pigs.

Outdoor Channel Agrees To Sell Itself To Owner Of The Sportsman Channel

By DAVID LIEBERMAN, Financial Editor | Friday November 16, 2012 @ 10:50am ESTTags: Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel

The deal will consolidate two of the leading media companies serving hunters and others who enjoy life in the wild. InterMedia Outdoors — which owns The Sportsman Channel and 15 magazines including Guns & Ammo and Petersen’s Hunting — secured $150M in financing for the deal. Outdoor Channel Holdings investors will receive a 25 cent a share special dividend, and then have a choice: They can take $8 for each of their shares or swap them for stock in InterMedia Outdoor Holdings, which expects to be listed on NASDAQ. Outdoor Channel shares are up 3.9% to $7.47 following the announcement. The deal is expected to close early next year; private equity firm InterMedia Partners will own 67.6% of the combined entity, and current Outdoor Channel shareholders will end up with 32.4%. Outdoor Channel CEO Tom Hornish will keep the top job in the new arrangement. The combination “will allow us to better serve the consumers, distributors and advertisers in this robust marketplace,” he says. Outdoor Channel reaches 38.1M pay TV households while The Sportsman Channel reaches 30.1M.

Just furthers the truth that there is not right or left only those that want power. They falsely choose sides and pretend to fight against each other to glean support from the gullible population all the while attending parties and other functions together yucking it up on how stupid John Q. Public really is.

They don’t care about conservatism or liberalism, they care about money and power and keeping the lords and ladies in power.

Debate Over Guns Now Colors a Buyout Bid
By ANDREW ROSS SORKIN
March 4, 2013, 8:22 pm

“Among the companies that Mr. Hindery’s private equity firm owns is InterMedia Outdoors, which publishes magazines including Guns & Ammo, RifleShooter and Handguns. It also owns the Sportsman Channel, which counts the National Rifle Association as one of its big advertisers. It broadcasts shows like “Cam and Company” from NRA News, and “Wanted: Ted or Alive,” featuring Ted Nugent.
DealBook Column

Late last year, Mr. Hindery won a bid to acquire the rival Outdoor Channel, a publicly traded company, for $200 million. Outdoor Channel could be described as the more politically correct and less sensationalistic competitor to Sportsman Channel, focusing on hunting and fishing.

I have a Colt Defender AND a Colt New Agent. 45ACP pocket rockets that were over $1000 each!.

Both flipped spent shells in my face. I finally decided to check the tension on the extractors. BOTH fell right out after I pulled the locking plate. NO TENSION whatsoever. I reset them (Weigand Tensioner) and they work fine now).

What kind of manufacturer just throws in subcontracted parts and not check them? A $300 gun? Maybe. A $1000+ gun? Hell no! That’s just northern union laziness.
