Thank you, TLS!!!! What a lovely tribute.
I came of age when Mr. Reagan was president, and the older I get, the more I miss him.

I remember going to the candlelight vigil at the White House the day he died. Anyone else there? I think I still have the candle stub somewhere.

This was such a great country back in the days when adults were running it. God Bless President Reagan.

Those were good days. Sadly, there’s probably more people now that don’t remember his as do.

I have several of Reagan’s speeches on my iPod. I enjoy listening to them now and then.
But, I’ve noticed that where they once were a source of inspiration, they now tend to make me depressed. How far this great nation has fallen since those words were spoken.
How great it was to have a real president, who actually loved America.

A President.
A real one.
One who loved this country—and us.
I remember seeing a Marine in dress waiting in the middle of the night to salute Reagan’s coffin in the Rotunda. He had no hands, from an injury.
I shed tears.

My son and I stood for about six hours in the long, snaking line in the early June sun outside the Capitol Building, inching our way along to pay respects to his remains in the Rotunda. I still have the program handed to everyone as they exited from viewing the flag-covered coffin.

From Reagan’s1967 California Gubernatorial Inauguration Speech:
“Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom, and then lost it, have never known it again.”
