Sweden: Parliament official orders bare-breasted painting removed … for Muslims
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, – A painting of a bare-breasted woman has been removed from the Swedish Riksdag’s guest dining room on orders from the legislature’s deputy speaker.
Deputy Speaker Susanne Eberstein of the Social Democrat party ordered the painting, “Juno” by baroque artist G.E. Schroder, to be removed from the guest dining room, where it had hung since 1983, TheLocal.se reported Thursday.
“We routinely change paintings from time to time,” a Riksdag representative said in response to an inquiry from news agency TT.
A parliamentary source who asked to remain anonymous told TT lawmakers were concerned about the painting’s effects on foreign visitors.
“You have to think of the foreign guests, especially those from Muslim countries,” the source said.
Eberstein said the painting’s removal was also for the comfort of herself and her fellow female officials.
“I think it is more a feminist issue. It’s tiresome [looking at] a bare-breasted woman when I sit at public dinners with foreign guests. I think it feels a little hard to sit there with men who look at us women,” Eberstein said.
Do pious Muslim men see the artwork then look at her as a piece of meat causing her to feel she may be raped?
Or like the mythical stereotype of the devout Catholic Latino, is the belief that Muslim men – who under the sharia can have four wives at a time, can marry underage prepubescent girls, are among the world’s largest consumers of pornography and treat women as chattel – are offended by bare-breasts a bit preposterous?

David, of course, is nude and Venus is bare breasted and they were standing on a table next to each other in my bedroom. This family member is super religious. She was upstairs in my house and later, after she left, I was in my bedroom and found my David and Venus turned around to face the wall. I stood there staring at my statues and started laughing. Who was she protecting from the evil of nudity to turn them around? Herself? Certainly not me as I am the one who paid good money to have them.
Anytime you come to my house you are welcome to see David and Venus facing forward. If that offends you, don't come to my house to start with as I probably offend you, too, for having them in my house.

I was a Christian probably before you were born. David and Venus are superb works of sculpture. The eye of the beholder can make them whatever they want. She chose to make them evil in some sort of way so much so she turned them around. That was excessive compulsive behavior on her part.
