Kindness and consideration is something to be admired especially when helping firefighters who have spent hours in subzero weather battling a local fire. So when McDonalds Manager Heather Levia saw a way to help them by donating food and paying for it out of her own pocket for them, being fired never occurred to her. But that is exactly what followed for the New York former manager at an Olean, NY McDonalds, according to Fox 44.
Total disbelief is one of the motions that had to have come across the young womans face when her immediate bosses at the fast food restaurant sent her packing for her kind gesture. All she did was take their order of 25 breakfast sandwiches and hash browns, and then promptly took $83 out and pay for their order herself. This selfless act was not welcomed by management and instead she was treated with utter contempt and even claimed that that was not the policy of the restaurant or of the corporation. This of course seemed a bit odd to Levia, since, she claims they regularly give free meals to police officers who stop by.

I’m guessing there’s more to the story.
I respect those who honor our police and firefighters. McDonalds should make this right.
I respect McDonald’s right to run their business as they see fit.
“Fire department pensions near $90,000, data show”
Members of the city’s Bravest who retired in 2010 received an average pension of $89,177, according to figures released Thursday by a conservative think tank.
Fired?! You fire an american beauty like her over a little power struggle? This girl has the looks and a kind heart. This is the sort of eight year employee who should be in public relations not on unemployment. Think outside of the burger box, Mc D.
If she paid for the food herself, what business is it of McDonalds?
I hope the managers are publicly humiliated over this.
“Im guessing theres more to the story.”
I agree. Something must be missing here.
If the story is indeed fact, what grounds did they have to fire her?
I agree....gotta be more to it or she will be receiving a nice settlement int he near future.
Yeh — old news:
and she ain’t no Joan of Arc either.
I agree with you...but if the story is true...the decisions they made will cost the dearly in the form of a huge settlement.....McDonald’s has shareholders...not sure if they will agree with you.
days gone by i was a swing manager at a mickey dees and every three or four days (my) regulars got it for free
put it on the managers waste sheet
get a plate throw on pie add some soft serve ice cream on top
other people would ask i dint see that on the menu
i didnt see you yesterday either
the owner caught me one day suggesting ( to a customer) their hot mustard sauce on a Mc Chicken. He pulled me into the office and said that int a menu item. But I like the way you think.
glad to see corporate america has got the look that kills...themselves
nice gesture but I want to tell her that those firemen make several times more than she makes and they should have refused the free food.....
“I respect McDonalds right to run their business as they see fit.”
Me too, and also the right of people who think it was a low life move to spread the story so people know not to do business with them.
have you ever heard of Jesus Christ
Back in high school, I ended up as crew chief (I don’t know why, but I always thought I was the only kid who didn;t smoke pot during breaks) and you are right, the waste sheet for one night is enough to feed an orphanage. McD’s lost an effective manager and she didn’t belong in that ungrateful environment.
Not buying her story.
I hope she lands a better job.
live in her world that day
post a vanity
Not buying her story?
Take a look at some other photos of Heather.
You might be moved to give her the benefit of the doubt.
I’ll bet this young woman has job offers pouring in. Hats off to her.
My understanding is that she got other employees to chip in on the meals and that is what got her canned.
Even though she probably wouldn’t have revenged upon employees who refused to chip in, it would have been viewed as an abuse of employees to use her position to push them into,it.
She gets the bill, the food goes to waste, and they go hungry.
Her gesture of appreciation is refused.
That just isn't a good deal all around.
This was done of her volition, it isn't like the firefighters pulled up and demanded it.
Having been a firefighter (volunteer), and in the midst of a working fire gratefully received a cup of coffee and a sandwich from someone who appreciated what we were doing, her actions would have been welcomed by firefighters all over the country. Community support of that nature is not something any emergency response personnel want to squelch, because it leaves bad feelings among the people you are there to serve.
Yea, that was a dainty explanation they gave for exactly how she paid for it.
“She immediately took $83 from her pay ..... “.
Sounds like she may have adjusted her time card or something dumbish like that.
I sounds like it isn’t a matter of her just surreptitiously paying for it with her own money and got caught some how.
Why do they care who pays?
There is. She asked to do this and was told no. So she did it anyway. The problem with disobedience on even positive things, it makes you wonder what other issues she dismisses from her bosses.
Not only not guilty but put the judge in jail!
“I respect McDonalds right to run their business as they see fit.”.......
And I, have the right to choose where I eat my food. You can rest assured, it will NOT be at a McDonalds.
The woman paid for the meals for those firemen herself, did she not, or did I get that wrong?
In New York as in most states, an employer can generally fire an "employee at will" (meaning an employee who is not covered by an employment contract or collective bargaining agreement) at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all, provided the employer is not discriminating against the employee because of race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, disability, or queerness, or as punishment for whistle-blowing or filing a worker's compensation case. I wouldn't bet on a big payday -- at least not based upon what we know so-far.
There was another picture of her on the old thread (this is not a new story) and she looked like she can go from zero to *itch in about two seconds. Goes to show you can’t tell diddly from a picture.
Im guessing theres more to the story.
Same here. And it does not help when the source quoted contains sentences with whoppers like this:
Total disbelief is one of the motions that had to have come across the young womans face....
Sounds like she should work for Chick-Fil-A where managers are encouraged to do such acts with company food.
I want to buy her story but, it ain’t passing the smell test.
She can afford $83 bucks for a spur of the moment charity and McD’s fired her for paying for that charity out of her own pocket?
Seems retarded on McD’s part for EEOC issues and PR.
If someone wants to pay for something at my company, what I do care?
They worked for the money and are free adults. They may do whatever they wish with the fruits of their labor and it would goash for me to inject myself into their affairs.
That first oily down hairdo did her no favors, though is well improved in subsequent photos.
I’d hit that and then hire her....
(It’s Frog Talk for “left.”)
I worked at McD’s and Taco Bell while in college.
Where should I start?
I actually only have one recollection of being treated like crap by a superior, who was really a very small man.
After we went through our challenge he learned just how small he was too and admitted it.
I liked working as a the maintenance man because I worked in the wee hours of the morning.
This meant I had free access to the fridge and freezer.
Ain’t nothing like a Canadian Bacon, 1/4 pounder and egg Scramble with red potatoes I brought in myself.
And then there is the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and Canadian Bacon.
Dang....now I’m hungry....
I was going to look that up but, I have another raging headache.
Fell asleep without putting my night guard in mouth.
I specifically put it on my bed so I wouldn’t forget.
Maybe I’ll go to the Unghhhhh!!! Thread.
Two days in a row! Yeah!!!
you tell me whats on the menu you tell me your hungry and there is no invite WTF (Wheres The Fries)
Because this shift manager was told no by the store manager AND corporate. Then, she took a collection amongst workers on her shift to pay the second bill.
McDonalds has every interesting in making sure that shift managers are not taking collections from workers to pay food bills.
