I’ll bet this young woman has job offers pouring in. Hats off to her.

My understanding is that she got other employees to chip in on the meals and that is what got her canned.

Even though she probably wouldn’t have revenged upon employees who refused to chip in, it would have been viewed as an abuse of employees to use her position to push them into,it.

If they refused the food, then what?

She gets the bill, the food goes to waste, and they go hungry.

Her gesture of appreciation is refused.

That just isn't a good deal all around.

This was done of her volition, it isn't like the firefighters pulled up and demanded it.

Having been a firefighter (volunteer), and in the midst of a working fire gratefully received a cup of coffee and a sandwich from someone who appreciated what we were doing, her actions would have been welcomed by firefighters all over the country. Community support of that nature is not something any emergency response personnel want to squelch, because it leaves bad feelings among the people you are there to serve.

Yea, that was a dainty explanation they gave for exactly how she paid for it.

“She immediately took $83 from her pay ..... “.

Sounds like she may have adjusted her time card or something dumbish like that.

I sounds like it isn’t a matter of her just surreptitiously paying for it with her own money and got caught some how.

There is. She asked to do this and was told no. So she did it anyway. The problem with disobedience on even positive things, it makes you wonder what other issues she dismisses from her bosses.

“I respect McDonald’s right to run their business as they see fit.”.......

And I, have the right to choose where I eat my food. You can rest assured, it will NOT be at a McDonalds.

The woman paid for the meals for those firemen herself, did she not, or did I get that wrong?

I agree....gotta be more to it or she will be receiving a nice settlement in the near future.

In New York as in most states, an employer can generally fire an "employee at will" (meaning an employee who is not covered by an employment contract or collective bargaining agreement) at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all, provided the employer is not discriminating against the employee because of race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, disability, or queerness, or as punishment for whistle-blowing or filing a worker's compensation case. I wouldn't bet on a big payday -- at least not based upon what we know so-far.

There was another picture of her on the old thread (this is not a new story) and she looked like she can go from zero to *itch in about two seconds. Goes to show you can’t tell diddly from a picture.

I’m guessing there’s more to the story.

Same here. And it does not help when the source quoted contains sentences with whoppers like this:

Total disbelief is one of the motions that had to have come across the young woman’s face....

What!!!???

Sounds like she should work for Chick-Fil-A where managers are encouraged to do such acts with company food.

I don't know if it's typical but i just wanted to grab a cup of coffee recently from Chick fil A and it was free. (I ended up buying fries because it seemed like the right thing to do. My stomach didn't complain).

I want to buy her story but, it ain’t passing the smell test.

She can afford $83 bucks for a spur of the moment charity and McD’s fired her for paying for that charity out of her own pocket?

Seems retarded on McD’s part for EEOC issues and PR.

If someone wants to pay for something at my company, what I do care?

They worked for the money and are free adults. They may do whatever they wish with the fruits of their labor and it would goash for me to inject myself into their affairs.

That first oily down hairdo did her no favors, though is well improved in subsequent photos.

I’d hit that and then hire her....

I worked at McD’s and Taco Bell while in college.

Where should I start?

I actually only have one recollection of being treated like crap by a superior, who was really a very small man.

After we went through our challenge he learned just how small he was too and admitted it.

I liked working as a the maintenance man because I worked in the wee hours of the morning.

This meant I had free access to the fridge and freezer.

Ain’t nothing like a Canadian Bacon, 1/4 pounder and egg Scramble with red potatoes I brought in myself.

And then there is the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and Canadian Bacon.

Dang....now I’m hungry....

Fell asleep without putting my night guard in mouth.

Stupid too.

I specifically put it on my bed so I wouldn’t forget.

Maybe I’ll go to the Unghhhhh!!! Thread.

Two days in a row! Yeah!!!

Why do they care who pays?

Because this shift manager was told no by the store manager AND corporate. Then, she took a collection amongst workers on her shift to pay the second bill.

McDonalds has every interesting in making sure that shift managers are not taking collections from workers to pay food bills.
