OR:Mass Shooting Stoped by Armed Citizen
Gun Watch ^ | 15 January, 2013 | Dean Weingarten

A mass shooter forgot the important functional rule for successful mass murderers: only attack in disarmed victim zones, sometimes called "gun free zones".   From KGW.com

The shooter hit three people, prompting a person in the bar to return fire, hitting and critically injuring the suspect.

"The shooter came in and just started shooting without any kind of warning," victim Gonzalo Zamora-Hernandeza told KGW Monday.

Brian Rizzo, a 26-year-old security guard from the club, was hit by the shooter at the front door and was still in critical condition with life-threatening injuries Monday.
Fortunately, Oregon is does not prohibit citizens from legally being armed in places that serve alcohol.   As indicated by the map, only a few states do.

One can ask, as the opponents of the second amendment always say that armed citizens never stop rampage shootings, why is this incident not front page news around the nation?   In fact it is one of a number of incidents where armed citizens stopped mass shooters before the number of victims became large enough to fit into the "official" category of mass shooting.   The official metric of a mass shooting requires a minimum of four dead victims, not including the shooter.

When an armed citizen stops a mass shooting, it is almost always before four innocent people are killed.

It’s OR. Who cares. Let’em kill everyone. Last shooter out turn the light off.

Everyone in the bar should have zipped themselves into bodybags then quietly called the cops. It is the only moral response.

Very short on details. Who was the shooter? What was the motive? How was he armed? Who shot the bad guy and with what?

Is there another article to the story? I couldn’t find one.

I finally bought myself a gun... maybe I won’t be the last one on the slab, but I didn’t like the idea of being the FIRST!

“Fortunately, Oregon is does not prohibit citizens from legally being armed in places that serve alcohol.”

When I got my CCW a few years ago in Fla. I found out the law prohibits CCW in places that serve alcohol. So technically I can’t carry in a lot of restaurants.

Reminds me of an incident that occurred here in Texas some 30 years ago. Some drunken dumbass and his buddy were ejected from a bar. They got mad about it, and sought revenge by retrieving their guns from the truck and returning to the bar. Upon returning, they shot and killed the bouncer and bar tender. The shooters, however, were immediately shot and killed by return fire from over 50 armed customers at the bar. Not a good idea to slap leather in watering holes around here.

as the opponents of the second amendment always say that armed citizens never stop rampage shootings, why is this incident not front page news

Because if a mass of people were not shot then it is not a "mass shooting." The claim that mass shootings are never stopped by armed citizens cannot be disproved because of the way the terms are defined. If it was stopped then there was no "mass shooting" and therefore a "mass shooting" was not stopped.

—map is wrong—South Dakota is one of the “not permitted” states , depending on the percentage of income from alcohol-—

Stupid comment. Oregon is a beautiful state. I live here as well as many conservatives. Only the large population areas are blue. Most of the state is red. Pennsylvania, where you live, is no bastion of conservatism either.

This doesn’t further the agenda of the left. Probably won’t read much more about it.

At our large family Christmas diner, my very Liberal cousin was telling me about using the car alarm on my car key ring as an alert, in case we have a break in.

I told him I always keep the car keys on my night stand .... right next to my gun.

The look on his face was priceless... so was the dead air after I said that. :)

Lots of brain dead Liberals in MY family.

It is not serves any alcohol, it is the business or portions of business that primarily serve alcohol.

You can carry in the restaurant but have to stay out of the bar.

The 2013 Florida Statutes
790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or firearm.—

In Texas the business has to derive 51% or more of revenue from alcohol otherwise you can carry. So unless you take your family to real bars at least you can protect them.

Technically, you can. Legally, you cannot.
