Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennetts plan to require proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in his state was assailed by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
There is no need for this, MALDEF attorney Nina Perales insisted. The US Supreme Court has already ruled that federal law trumps state law on this issue.
Federal law merely requires that those registering to vote attest that they are citizens. They are not required to provide any documentary proof.
Mr. Bennetts suspicion that people could falsely swear denigrates the integrity of every Latino, Perales complained. Not everyone should be treated as if they are as untrustworthy as the one who promised we could keep our health insurance if we liked it.

Who da thunk dat the illegals would have come down against voter id? Baffling ... completely baffling.
In other news thieves oppose laws against burglary...
Which part is the satire? This sounds like a straight news story.
Every time that I fail to notice your name on the column, I am taken in.
Why?
Because they already truly have said even more outrageous things.
Good work, John
The illegal alien branch of the democrat party and GOP-e seem to be getting pretty uppity about having to cough up proof of citizenship. The ones that complain the loudest, should be targeted for deportation. Leave voluntarily, or else suffer the consequences. The gringos have had enough of your socialist bullshit!
I’m guessing the WH and the DNC told them to protest harder...

Atthe rate we’re going John will be out of the satire business soon...lol
Yeah, cause then John McCain and Jeff Flake wouldn’t get reelected.
Once again...this ain’t satire, it’s a preview of the news...to come
Can I go to say... Canada, France, Germany, or Italy, etc. and vote in THEIR elections?
Logically progressing this to worldwide elections for POTUS.
LOL just put on my glasses for the fine print. But hey, probably true anyway.
And homosexuals oppose laws against buggery...
