In July, Coach is Right reported that the Affordable Care Act saw to it that the nation’s best, doctor-owned hospitals would be forced to close. And now it appears that the favor is being returned as most of the nation’s top commercial hospitals will either refuse to accept ObamaCare patients, or “…accept insurance from just one or two companies operating under Obamacare.” (1)
It seems Kathleen Sebelius’ Health and Human Services Department went too strong in demanding insurance companies participating in ObamaCare cap their premiums. After all, prospective insureds must be able to afford premiums on the policies Obamacare is forcing them to buy.
Well that has not come to pass, as the many stories of “sticker shock” have made clear. And in its attempts to intimidate insurance providers into quoting lower prices, the HHS has succeeded only in causing them to create policies which will pay “…top-tier doctors and hospitals far less...

Illinois prison officials estimate nearly 30,000 newly freed inmates will be eligible for Medicaid coverage in 2014 under President Barack Obama’s health care law.
The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises newspapers reports state officials say better access to care for physical and mental health issues may help parolees succeed outside of prison.
The Department of Corrections plans eventually to help inmates connect with Medicaid before they’re released, so they can make a smooth transition into the state and federal health care program for the poor.

I wonder if a pay as you go would work? For example, I was in The Bahamas and needed care and went to the hospital. First was 45.00 to register. Then later they came to me with a bill for 97.59 for x-rays. 57.00 for casting. 40.00 for drugs. I left and didn’t feel as bad at all. In the United States, that bill would be around 2,500 for the same thing. The patient care is number one at the Bahamas hospital unlike the United States. Will my insurance pay my bills? Claim is in, but even if they don’t it was a great experience.
Obamacare is creating a two-tier health system. One for the Rich, and one for everyone else.

If you’re in Medicare or Medicaid it’s apparently illegal to pay cash for services. If they catch you they can permanently ban you from receiving future paid services. (The same is true in the UK.)
My wife was recently seen at the Mayo Clinic and I was amazed at the number of foreigners, particularly from the Middle East, who were there for their medical care. I couldn’t help but to imagine that in the near future the only patients at the Mayo Clinic will be foreigners, government officials and the liberal elite. The rest of us will be waiting in line at a government clinic for our 10 minute visit with a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.
Insurance is a really simple business. You figure out how much you’re going to have to pay out, you add in admin costs and a profit, then you divide that by the number of your policy holders and you get the premium. It’s a truly simple equation, and every element in it interacts with every other element.
If you’re going to decrease premiums, you have to decrease payout. It can be done by limiting who you insure, reducing payments to physicians and hospitals, increasing deductable and co-pays, or reducing coverage. Those are pretty much the options. What the administration is trying to do is adjust the premium without incurring any of the consequences, and that just can’t happen in the real world. So they’re stuck in this circle of their own making where they want everything and are incapable of dealing with the fact that they can’t have it all. What we’re seeing from them is like a chess player who makes a move, then complains that every time he moves a piece his opponent moves one.
This is the classic “I want it all” mentality of the lib (and the average four year old) at its finest. They’re just frantically spinning because they can’t accept reality. Wait’ll they find out the Christmas pony isn’t going to be there...
The best Hospital system in the St. Louis metro area is not participating in Obamacare. This includes Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital to name a few of the parts of the system.
I feel sorry for those in the midst of treatments that will be cut off come January.
So happy I have good employer paid insurance that is not a part of that crap.
They may reject Obamacare, but (IIRC by law) they are mandated to accept any patient, regardless of the ability to pay.
So, they will be hurting themselves by rejecting Obamacare.
Once a patient is admitted, however, they might be able to revert to Medicaid. Guess who gets stuck with those bills at the finale?

That’s been delayed till after the elections. You won’t have anything but a crap sandwich too.
Thanks for the warning. I am not on Medicare yet, but I imagine I will be when I get to the age they force me on it.

But only for care specified under EMTALA and only until stabilization (more or less).
