I wonder if a pay as you go would work? For example, I was in The Bahamas and needed care and went to the hospital. First was 45.00 to register. Then later they came to me with a bill for 97.59 for x-rays. 57.00 for casting. 40.00 for drugs. I left and didn’t feel as bad at all. In the United States, that bill would be around 2,500 for the same thing. The patient care is number one at the Bahamas hospital unlike the United States. Will my insurance pay my bills? Claim is in, but even if they don’t it was a great experience.

If you’re in Medicare or Medicaid it’s apparently illegal to pay cash for services. If they catch you they can permanently ban you from receiving future paid services. (The same is true in the UK.)
