James Rawles Warns: “Be Prepared To Hunker Down For Months”
SHTF Plan ^ | 9/23/13 | Mac Salvo

Posted on 09/23/2013 4:42:35 PM PDT by Kartographer

For someone in an urban area who plans to hunker down and doesn’t plan to bug out with country cousins, one thing that should be at the top of everyone’s list but that’s very much overlooked is… if you’re in a situation where you have power because you have photovoltaics but your neighbors don’t, you really should concentrate on black-out curtains for your windows. You need to black out your house completely, without any light leaks so that your house will look just as black as any other on your block.

Otherwise you’re going to be targeted as the rich guy. You don’t want to become a loot-me-beacon at night. That should be a fairly high priority for you.

Plenty of ammo is a must.

Gold wouldn’t be of much use either. Each one ounce coin is a $1300 bill—cash one of those and you’ll be followed home.

Maybe silver—each ounce is more like a twenty dollar bill—just some groceries, regardless of what happens to the nominal currency value.

I’ve been saying the same thing for years. Also if you are hungry and have an ounce of gold and I have soup, which is really worth more?

Whenever the power goes out out here in the woods and our generator kicks in, I always think of zombies....
Maybe need to think of other threats, too.....

I would spray paint all my windows black inside and out in that situation. In fact, I keep several cans of spray paint for emergency use.

I do not remember where I read this but someone said to have the yard solar lights to use inside when power is out. I thought that was a great idea.

Aluminum foil and vaseline will block all light from a window.

Our county is offering rebates for solar systems. Apparently quite a large amount.

I'd rather black-out troublemakers, and leave my blinds alone.

I was thinking the same thing. If I can’t trust them, they ain’t staying around.

Sitting inside and waiting for bad people to show up is a no-win situation. I'd rather have the initiative and the high ground.

Open season and no bag limit on goblins. Just gotta be quiet, so you don't spook 'em.

Night vision equipment could defeat most attempts at blocking out light.

Pearls, if you feel like it give the Northwest Territorial Mint outfit a look. Just one type of silver they offer is one oz. silver bars and rounds that are ‘pre-scored’ into 1/4 oz. ‘splits’. (I have not purchased any in a while but if I remember correctly they were called ‘Stagecoach’ back then). The bars and rounds are very easy to break up or split apart also . They would be a very good option for barter. NTM offers Junk Silver also, another great bartering item.

You regular night vision probably wouldn’t if you used heavy blankets or plastic. Thermal likely would. There is also those high frequency scanners they have which can see through walls.

Thats only the organized military or cops though.

The blackout curtains would protect you from most. There’s also the problem of smell from food cooking.

Yep. I plan to use that as bait when hunting ne'er-do-wells.
