HSV is a test center. There are numerous panels beside the main drag. Whoever suggested the yard solar lights said to use them instead of candles. Wish I had known that before the last tornado. Ok, this is one of my not so funny memories. Before we lost power for a week, I had put out candles in different rooms. I thought, wrongly, that putting a 3 wick candle in a bathroom sink, that I was oh so smart. I went back in there a few hours after I lit it and found it had melted and gone down the drain. What a mess. My husband had died in 06 so I knew I was the one who had to take the drain apart to get all that wax out. I got down on the floor and decided I could do it. Well, I got it apart, got the wax out and put it back together without it leaking. Lesson learned. So, all you husbands teach your wives how to fix things around the house. You never know what tomorrow will bring. He died 3 months after we were told he had liver cancer.

Dittos to that ‘zac. My old butt is prepped and ‘up and out’ also. If bad guys even make it up here, they will decide it would be in their best interests to look elsewhere for whatever they are trying to take/steal/beg or kill for prior or during their very first attempt....

Talking about odor. It’s going to get pretty rank after a few looters are shot and left in the yard to rot.

A good way to catch a disease and die.

At least you didn’t try to melt the wax out.

Well, after my not-so great attempt this summer at trying to grow vegetables, MREs are going to be what we dine on but yeah, man...someone’s going to have to be pretty damn desperate to wander out here and mess with us.

Everybody gets light in the daytime. I’m more worried about the water supply.

For someone in an urban area who plans to hunker down and doesn’t plan to bug out with country cousins, one thing that should be at the top of everyone’s list but that’s very much overlooked is…

Really? Blackout curtains? The urban homes won't have running water? Can't really hunker down like that, can you?

The bullet is worth more than your soup. :)

Do you saute' it, fry it or grill it?....does garlic enhance the flavor?

Indeed. You don’t own what you don’t patrol.

I am too smart to do something like that. Besides, what would I have used? That ranks right up there with my falling off the lawn mower back in the 70’s. Boy, my daughter still talks about that little episode. : )

I’ve suggested this before, and it may be elsewhere in this thread, but if it gets to the point in your area and food lines appear, it would be prudent to show up even though you are self-sufficient.

In a small enough area where everybody knows everybody else, some might wonder why you don’t show up and decide to see what else you may have.

I dont know a good way that’s any better. Perhaps boiling water down the drain. Probably more work then taking it apart.

MRE’s are for short term use only. After a week of eating them you will become constipated. Try storing canned food for the short term and for long term check out Emergency Essentials.
