The facts are that rape is not caused by: • Lust • Uncontrollable urges • Sexual gratification • Appearance of victims

It is an act of physical violence and domination that is not motivated by sexual needs. It has little to do with the need for sex.

It is an act of physical violence and domination that is not motivated by sexual needs. It has little to do with the need for sex.

Thanks for posting one of the great myths of our time.

It goes back to the start of the sexual revolution, when a concerted effort was made to get rid of the notion that any sexual activity could possibly be "bad."

Since we were all agreed that rape was bad, then obviously it couldn't be sex.

In actual fact, of course, the sexual urge can be turned to evil, as can indeed any human emotion or drive.

The very existence of a thriving BDSM subculture shows very clearly that for many sexual need is entangled with physical violence and domination. Saying it is "A not B" implies that it cannot be "A and B," which is of course nonsense. Rape is of course just BDSM games carried to their logical extreme.

That twisted sexual compulsions, including those for rape and child molestation, have a definite physical/sexual component can be seen by the statistics for chemical or physical castration, in those countries and states where this is permitted. It is generally admitted that recidivism for child molesting is over 90%. I'm not sure what it is for serial rapists.

For those castrated, admittedly usually a self-selected group who do not consciously want to continue these actions, the recidivism rate is generally under 10%.

That's a pretty dramatic difference for something that has "nothing to do with the sexual urge."

99% of people who rape are men (1)

Only about 2% of all sexual assault accusations reported to police turn out to be false. This is the same rate of false reporting as other types of violent crimes. (1)

No matter what the original motivation, rape, in the traditional definition, cannot be effected with lust coming into play.

It has little to do with the need for sex.

I disagree. I believe that for some men, rape is what occurs when normal urges are not controlled by societal inhibitions. In those cases the urge is sexual. In other crimes, other urges are not inhibited. Anger is not controlled in assaults, envy or greed are not controlled in theft, etc.

A step down the road in the breakdown of the societal inhibitions concerning sexual ethics is the concept of consent. At that point the word 'rape' will lose its meaning, the way 'marriage' has.

Anybody who claims that they know what does, and does not, cause every single rape that happens, is wrong.

Some men clearly rape because they have uncontrollable urges. Some are lustful. Some rape for sexual gratification (heck, I bet more than just some, if you include those who get sexual gratification from the power).

Saying that rape is not sexually gratifying is like saying you can’t get pregnant from rape — I mean, if the man isn’t sexually gratified, there will be no semen to impregnate the victim.

And maybe it is only in the movies where drunk men end up raping the heroine because they are attracted to her. But I doubt it.

Rape is an act of physical violence. That doesn’t mean that the PURPOSE of rape is physical violence.

And of course, this completely ignores date rape and “lack of informed consent” rape, the first being a case where there was clearly sexual attraction but something at some point changes for one partner but not the other; and the second being a case where the woman and man are both engaging but not necessarily because of a choice (like if they are both drunk, or if they are on drugs purposely or through nefarious means).

I think the “Rape is never about” people cause great disservice, because they convince some women that nothing they do can matter, and then those women might do things that put them at greater risk, thinking there is no such thing as “greater risk”.

Are you unaware that, prior to the rise of feminist hags in the 1960s, rape was considered a sex crime perpetrated by men who couldn't control their sexual desires? The radical fembots redefined rape in order to make it all about the oppression of women by the evil patriarchal male...or "domination", as you put it.

You're parroting the leftwing line very well, but you don't know what you're talking about.

What are you trying to say--that rape is serious because it is about violence and not about sex?

So a punch in the jaw--which is about violence--is more serious than sex without the woman's permission?

Really? Then why are most victims young women? If your theory were correct, it would predict at minimum a more even distribution among females not of child-bearing age. The facts contradict your assertion.

Quote” An affirmative answer was counted as rape. In other words, a women who regretted a one night stand after a night of drinking was considered as having been sexually assaulted. The ambiguous nature of the questions and inclusive definition of rape is evident from the following statistics. Only 27 percent of the women Koss counted as having been raped identified themselves as rape victims. Moreover, 42 percent of labeled rape victims, went on to have sex with their attackers at a later date. Clearly, something is wrong. If we just consider women who considered themselves to be raped, the figure falls to a more believable 1/14.” http://aspiringeconomist.com/index.php/2009/09/11/rape-statistics-1-in-4/
