“How to win elections and have it matter”

Now that’s key to be sure.

The problem with the Sit-Down-When-They-Pee-GOPe is that for the most part, they are indistinguishable from Democrats. For example, is there any real difference in the opinion of Marco Rubio and Chuckie Schumer in the matter of illegal immigration ? No. Is there any difference between Pat Toomey’s view on obliterating the Second Amendment and your rank and file progressivik ? No, not really. We could go on and on, but I’m sure you get the idea.

I don’t think he’ll mind since Alan Levy and Absolutely Nobama are two sides of the same coin.

:)

And for the record, no, I am not BlogTalk Radio’s Alan Levy.

:)

But if you are interested, here’s a link to my blog:

For the most part, whatever I write ends up on FR. It’s one of the biggest Conservative platforms out there and helps me reach an audience I wouldn’t be able to reach on my own.

You know, I did have a vague inkling that Alan was here under another name, but couldn’t get further than that!

The reason I mentioned it is I wanted to be sure you (as Alan) got credit. I really enjoy reading everything you write.

There are several articles today about what’s going on in Egypt, and here’s a link to the TB2 thread about it, check out the photos:

http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showthread.php?431180-The-Egyptian-Riot-Thread-Please-post-any-info-concerning-what-s-happening-there./page3

Turkey’s been doing the same thing. The massive protests are AGAINST Islamic rule. Mil helicopters in Egypt have shown support for the anti-Morsi protests, and mil sources said 14 to 17 million anti-Morsi protesters today.

I think we need mass protests/civil disobedience here. Been saying this for months actually.

I agree. But most ‘Americans’ value their material goods over their freedom and would never risk upsetting the powers that be.

I don’t know, Norm. Nully used the term “sleeping giant waking up” as a response to me today.

I smell change in the air, I do.

...it was determined that the Republican Party needed a "bigger tent". The gist of the report was this: The party was too white, too Christian, and too male.
And that's exactly what everyone who said they were too conservative to vote for the nominees in 2008 and 2012 were warned would happen -- you don't show up, you don't count.

“I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Money works in today’s political arena. If you have big money, and give it to the national committee of either party and individual candidates, you have a voice. If you don’t have big money to give, you have no voice.

Liberal activists have done an outstanding job of taking over non-profit organizations (Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club) and turning them into vehicles for securing government money and then return a percentage to the politicians who do their bidding. The millions of dollars kicked back to the politicians gives them a disproportionate voice. Conservatives have either not tried or not been successful with the government grant money laundering operations.

With respect to the Republican Party the big money comes from corporate interests and wealthy individuals. The individual contributing $100 to a candidate is certainly appreciated by the candidate but he/she has zero voice or influence when the candidate must raise millions to get elected. The corporate fat cat who delivers a $2 million bundle has influence. When the GOP Congressman weighs 10,000 emails, phone calls, and letters from constituents whose combined giving is $10,000 versus the fat cat who each election cycle funds 10-20% of his/her campaign, who do you think will get the vote on immigration, spending, or other issues?

Most politicians are pragmatic human beings. They may run for office the first time with passion for a cause but when they get to Washington they quickly learn the game. This is why so many of the 2010 Tea Party elected Republicans became cogs in the wheel of the system so quickly.

The answer for conservatives is clear. Either form a new party that is ideologically to the right, and will attract the majority of its contributions from like minded donors, or find a way to bundle the individual conservative contributions in a way that the donations will be significant enough to influence the behavior of Republican politicians.

The simple fact is the Mitt Romney’s of the world, wealthy moderate businessmen, control the purse strings of the Republican Party. They don’t care about abortion, they are not deeply religious, they want open borders for business reasons, and their Ivy League educations plus the urban social sets in which they travel make them inclined to have a moderate to liberal point of view with respect to social issues.

Ultimately he or she who owns the gold, makes the rules. Today the wealthy country club Republicans provide the bulk of the funding for the candidates so they ultimately set the agenda. When you vote for a Republican because he/she isn’t quite as bad as the other candidate, you are enabling the system and provide no incentive for change.

“When you vote for a Republican because he/she isn’t quite as bad as the other candidate, you are enabling the system and provide no incentive for change.”

Guilty as charged.

In 2000, I was probably the only person in South Florida who willfully voted for Pat Buchanan. Granted, I was young and stupid and had no real idea what kind of jerk Buchanan is, but my way left of center parents hated him like poison, so he got my vote.

In 2004 I voted for Bush for the simple reason that he was not John Kerry. When TARP, Medicare Part D, and all the rest came down the pike, a cold shiver of shame ran down my spine. I helped bring all of that about with my vote.

In which case did my vote do the most damage ? My vote for Pitchfork Pat almost landed Al Snore in the White Hut. My vote for Bush gave us a whole heap of bloated government.

Good thought provoking post.

Thanks, FRiend. I really appreciate the kind words!

Too bad the dolts at a certain unnamed Neocon publication/website doesn’t see it your way. They called my writing “childish” and “needlessly provocative”.

What a bunch of wimps.

Good post, and excellent tagline. Nostalgia is counter-productive. Unless someone has given up, that is, then it’s all that is left.

I can’t point to specifics but get the feeling that the left is much better at long range planning than we are.

“I can’t point to specifics but get the feeling that the left is much better at long range planning than we are.”

I can point to two very specific examples proving your theory 1000% correct.

If you want an example of the left’s long range vision, look at Obamacareless. Obamacareless wasn’t first thought of by the leftist masterminds of today. Actually, it was cooked up by the early 20th century Progressiviks, most notably John McLame’s idol Teddy Roosevelt. It took the left a hundred years, but they got what they always wanted: Socialized medicine to rule the masses. It started off small, then along came Medicare. Then Medicaid. Oh look! Nationalized health care!

The Republican Party stinks at setting goals and is even worse at meeting them. The EPA, which wasn’t even created by a law passed by CONgress, is still in existence. Guess what? The Department of Education (which doesn’t educate anyone) is still around. Sure Reagan and Bush I had horrible CONgresses to deal with, But until 2006, Bush II had both the House and the Imperial Senate and did nothing to reduce the size of government.

Thanks, Alan. Yeah, even very short term - I think back to Holder’s slip (at letting it get out) about “brainwashing” the public on gun control. A few years later, and here we are - beaten to a pulp and far, far worse than any of us thought possible 10 years ago. Let’s face it, they were astounding successful so far and it’ll probably get worse.

Does the GOP plan anything even that far ahead? Doesn’t seem like it.

Now that I think about it, there’s another aspect to this. Teamwork. Or maybe I should say unity of purpose, because teamwork suggests a voluntary enthusiasm which may only be partially true. So whether it’s from payoffs, arm twisting or whatever, still it’s a coordinated effort time after time, and successful time after time.

And on our side, what? “Vet the candidates better.” Some winning strategy - not. Sure, we have goals, like - “enforce the 2nd amendment”. But goals are pie in the sky - there doesn’t seem to be any planning or strategy. Really, I can’t think of a single one: 2nd amendment, DOMA, right-to-life, relief from big gov’t, protection of national rights from the push for a one-world gov’t. What’s our strategy to make some headway on these issues?
