The University of Iowa may have broken federal guidelines by sharing with the local sheriffs department private information about students who apply for campus gun permits.
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, public universities are required to keep secret personal information on students, such as their grades and addresses. But Iowa has been sending personal information regarding students who apply for campus gun permits to the sheriffs office.
That information includes whether students received bad grades, or were exhibiting signs of depression or anger.
The policy dates back to a campus shooting in 1991, when a mentally disturbed graduate student killed himself and five others.
But the policy probably violates FERPA, according to the Des Moines Register...

More and more.
Universities are slime.
The senate is slime.
The MSM is slime.
The dork in chief is slime.
The common element...or ...excrement?
Liberals.
I bet they wouldn’t tell the parents anything
It's only supposed to apply to other people.
The 2nd Amendment’s death by a thousand paper cuts. That’s what the progs are doing.
No privacy at the university? I want to know baby killing mothers and homosexuals. NOW!!!~
I think this just means that you need to get a “B” or better, in Constitutional History, before you’re eligible.....

I want to see Obama’s transcripts if there is no privacy at universities.
My wife’s alma mater too... Well, I’m sure they’ll be paying dearly for this mistake, or rather, Iowa tax payers will.
When I lived in Iowa, permits were may-issue, by county. I remember hearing crap about what the U of I did. People down in that county had a worse time of it than us up in Linn County (Cedar Rapids). In CR at the time the sheriff had a policy he’d let you get a permit if you passed a moronic shooting test and signed a statement that you carried at least $500 in cash on your person. The permit was valid only if you were carrying the cash...
Yeah, it was dumb. One of the only things I miss about living there is the best gun shop I’ve ever been to.
Except for Ojango’s.
I want to see Obamas transcripts if there is no privacy at universities.
Somehow, I don't see that happening any time soon...
Apparently this only applies to us peons. His transcripts will never see the light of day.
But if it’s a democrat candidate the records are sealed for all eternity.
“I bet they wouldnt tell the parents anything.”
They won’t. But any parent that’s paying ONE DIME towards their kid’s education should be sitting right next to the kid when he pulls his grades up on the computer.
If the kid refuses, the parent needs to tell junior: “times are tough, how about you enlist”.
Time to matriculate somewhere else.
