Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib While Working Families Barely Survive?

I saw and EBT user buying 4lbs of $8.99/lb shrimp at the grocery tonight. Peeves the hell out me.

Last year I stopped by Wal Mart to pick up some stuff on the way home from work. It was Sunday at just before midnight and I think it was the day the EBT cards reset at midnight.

There was a non english speaking hispanic family there with a woman and man in their 40’s, a girl in her late teens or early 20’s and about three young children.

The two adults and the older girl each had a register of their own completely filled up with groceries, snack food, soft drinks, clothing, toys and arts and crafts supplies and were hanging around waiting.

Just after midnight , the man reaches into his front shirt pocket and pulls out about 6 of our states distinctly shaped EBT cards, sorts through and carefully looks at each one of them. After a moment of careful deliberation, the man then proceeds to select three of the EBT cards out the stack.

He hands one to the woman, one to the younger girl and takes one for himself and all three proceeds to check out their respective piles of goods on each of their registers and loaded the bagged goods into about 5 maxed shopping carts and the whole group heads for the parking lot.

It only took me a minute to check out my gallon of milk and dozen eggs so I followed directly behind them.

They are parked in a parking space just opposite to the parking space I was parked in so I got a very good look at their vehicle.

They were driving an optioned out late 1-2 year old top of the line, optioned out red Chevy Suburban SUV with expensive alloy rims and high end aftermarket off road type tires, an aftermarket performance exhaust system and and a really nice biscuit colored leather interior.

The license plate on the SUV showed that it was from Sonora, Mexico.

In our state, each family regardless of the number of people and the number of programs the are one, are issued only ONE EBT card per family.

These people had at least 6 and actually used 3 of them to purchase what I would estimate to be well over $1000 and perhaps closer to 2,000 dollars worth of items between the three of them.

The problem that we have is that it is really easy to create a false identity through the illegal alien network and then go on welfare multiple times under multiple fake identities.

Our social service workers, as a matter of policy, provide EBT cards to people who are illegal and have forged ID documents.

The problem is there is no way to track how many times these people have signed up under multiple assumed identities.

Our own citizens take advantage of the same ready access to fake IDs to get benefits under multiple fake Ids as well.

It is killing the state of California’s welfare system.

Many illegals have multiple identities and there was a thread yesterday - I think- about how its racist (or something) to ban them from committing identity fraud or something.

TRANSFORMING AMERICA one day at a time. It certainly seems this is what the majority of voters in America wanted.

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

The Boston Children’s Museum just recently announced a $2.00 entrance fee for those with EBT (food stamp) cards.

For the “fools” who don’t have these cards it is $14.00.

When I read this last week I was enraged. My kids and their spouses work very hard to support their families and they just got kicked in the face.

Very well said. While I know there is abuse in the food stamp program,no one on here knows one thing about the people on assistance - yet, they spew their hatred of those using the card. The comments I read on here are so judgmental that it makes me angry. You should never judge anyone unless you have walked a mile in their shoes. Maybe some of these well-dressed, people driving nice cars lost their jobs due to the wonderful/s obama economy and these vehicles are paid off before the family went on food stamps.

And for people to make a list of what others should and shouldn’t eat makes me think they’d be right at home with nanny bloomburg in NYC. This type of judgmental and superior attitude is right up his alley - after all, he banned salt, transfats, soda over 16 oz, and is now working on getting rid of styrofoam. Seems he knows what’s best for everyone, just as some on here do.

“If it were up to me, we would have ONE assistance program..”

Why not MRE’s, C-Rats or K-Rats for people my age. Let them all come to a central point and claim their share.

Try trading THOSE for drugs or alcohol!

Now, right from the outset of this article, let me make it abundantly clear that I do not believe that most people are abusing the system. As I have written about over and over, the number of Americans living in poverty is rapidly increasing because there are not enough jobs.

This mealy-mouthed politically correct excuse for stating unpleasant facts made reading the remainder an exercise increasing blood presure and little else.

There are no jobs because a treasonous bastard ran for president, and businesses large and small were not willing to risk what could clearly happen (and in fact has happened) if he was succesful.

Does this author actually believe that 49% of american residents of working age are looking for work? Yes, most ARE abusing the system.

Substantially more than half of those abusing the "welfare" system are doing so fraudulently, or simply because they can do so successfully and it takes a lot less effort.
Politically, it is also a permanent benefit to our elected criminal class.

Too damned expensive. (Almost as much as the lobster.)

That was really a creative bunch of BS you laid on us NOOB.
We are tolerant here, but not stupid.

Undocumented or unsubstantiated assertions are not worth rat feces.

Perhaps you should go back to DU and get additional training.

I really don't care what you eat, so long as you're not using and abusing my tax dollars to do it.

You haven't walked a mile in my shoes either, moron.

No, working people have a right to bitch about what luxuries they are providing for deadbeats. I can’t imagine what you are doing here other than being a troll

“Very well said.”

Thanks for the support. If some on here had to have food stamps, I don't think they would like it if the card could only be used for rice and beans as some have said. They would be yelling, “Nanny state says I can only have rice and beans and I lost my job and this money is all I have to eat on and I can decide which food is better for my family.” That is exactly what I would think if I had to have that card.

Those cards aren't just going to deadbeats and liberals. So many good people have lost jobs and can't find one. This is a terrible situation and I can't judge people or what they buy. I'd rather pray for those in real trouble.
