Barack Obama won last nights debate. Or to be more precise, Mitt Romney lost it.
Thats obviously not the conventional view of the commentators or pollsters, who gave the GOP candidate a clear win. But that doesnt matter. He still lost.
There are three reasons why Romney experienced a soft implosion of his already tenuous electoral chances. First, there was no gotcha moment. Before the debate every political analyst, be they from the Left or Right, agreed that Romney had to land a knockout blow, which he didnt.
There was no major presidential gaffe. No glancing at watches, sighing or claiming there has never been any soviet domination of eastern Europe. Crucially, in the new media age, there was no YouTube moment. In fact, the one single moment I suspect most voters will remember from the debate was Barack Obama sending his wife Michelle greetings on their wedding anniversary.
The second problem for Romney was that while he failed to land a knockout blow, he kept piling into him. He was aggressive, too aggressive.
This is Romneys greatest weakness as a candidate. He lacks compassion. He comes across as one of those big businessman in old Westerns who turns up at the farm and explains to the widow that he needs to buy her land to make way for his new railroad, and if she knows whats good for her, shell take him up on his kind offer. CNNs post election poll found that two thirds of those who watched thought Romney put in the most effective performance. But only 46 per cent said they found him more likeable than Obama. Not only did Romney not land the knockout blow, he failed to close the empathy gap.....

Desperation is a tender trap, it gets you every time.
Obama - the choice for European commies everywhere!
The Telegraph blogs are becoming a big joke, guess I should pile onto this doofus
LOL good one.
Oh wait this isn’t satire?
NOW IT’S EVEN FUNNIER! HAHAHAHAHA
According to the CBS poll the empathy gap closed majorly...they are now almost even according to that poll.
In other words, Romney was not as deferential as McCain. And look at how well McCain did.
Dream on Mr. Hodges! You need to have your head examined.
my comment there:
All of the leftists seem to be in agreement that Barack Obama is an incoherent, rambling, empty suit and demand the media become even more of a cheerleader to put him over the top.
The real Obama was there on the stage last night, on his own for the first time in over 5 years. He has NOTHING. Without a teleprompter and a fauning press to tell us what he meant to say, he is a stuttering incoherent, self-contradicting fool.
That is the real Barack Obama. Not the pre-packaged one presented to us by the sycophantic press.
The only people who disagree are the voters who watched.
As intellectually dishonest as the American media currently appears, it is a font of truth and insight as compared with the European press, the latter of which has spent years creating a myriad of colorful alternative realities, while studiously ignoring the world outside the asylum windows.
What planet is this guy from? Already the RNC has an ad out today based on Obama's serial smirks. Even Chris Matthews was fuming. Obama looked down all the time. He could not look at Romney.
The raised leg was featured on Drudge. Obama twitched and fidgeted looking like he wanted to be somewhere else. Everyone saw it. It was not subtle. Your pick of gaffes.
The left is absolutely delusional.
Wait, does this writer, Dan Hodges, work for Apple? You know, the design flaw is really just a built-in feature!
Yeah, forget what your own lying eyes saw, I tell ya, Mitt lost.
Bwahahahaha.... I’ll take that kind of losing any day.
Didn’t we kick the Brits out of our country once already!?!
When I came into the office this morning, some of the women were actually saying they felt sorry for Obama because of his performance. If anything they seemed MORE likely to vote for him out of sympathy.
Ah, the female mind.....
Oh barf. He's British so I'll give him a pass, but in America only weak-minded women and gay men worry about "aggressive" attitude in politicians. Give me MORE aggression from those who are supposed to be on "my" side ANYday! Boehner, McConnell, et. al., ya hearin' me????
This guy is the resident liberal at the Telegraph. He’s biased and delusional.
Dan Hodges.
Obviously, both highly intelligent and politically perceptive.
what a wanker
