Press Secretary Jay Carney sought to explain President Obamas refusal to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu when he visits the United States next week.
There are only so many hours in a day, Carney observed. The President has to prioritize how he spends his time. Meeting with Mr. Netanyahu just didnt make the cut.
Some things that have made the cut have raised some eyebrows. Obama maintains an aggressive campaign fund-raising calendar and will make an appearance on David Lettermans TV show.
Look, Letterman has been a great friend to the President, Carney said. The guys in a battle for viewers every night of the week. Repaying this friendship and boosting his ratings is the honorable thing to do. And, to be honest, having millions watching the President on the show cant hurt his reelection campaign.
The fund-raisers are a no brainer, Carney continued. The President is in the most desperate fight of his life. If he doesnt win reelection everything he has tried to accomplish is in danger. It takes money to win elections. He shouldnt be blamed for his efforts to get as much of it as he can.
Its not as if the President has never met with Netanyahu, Carney added. Whats to be gained by yet another sit down with the guy? Yeah, Israels concerned about Irans nukes, yadda, yadda, yadda. But what can we do about it? Besides, given the current tensions in the region maybe creating a little more space between the United States and Israel might not be such a bad thing. I know some people would be very happy to see that.

with “the guy?” Seriously? Seriously? I can’t believe what this man is saying. UNREAL. You can’t make this stuff up.
Already have a bite.
I hate you, John Semmens! :))
Well you can...you just have to be talented and subtle about it. :-)
“yadda, yadda, yadda” was the give away. I believed it up until that - I might expect a “blah blah blah” from the WH but not a “yadda, yadda, yadda”. Semmons is great, he tricks me almost every time.
Well - the winds of war are blowing in an ungainly direction; Barack Obama wrote in his book that he would cast his lot in with the Muslims - so, no surprise here.
- His nasty lot doesn’ve jive with most of our lots.
Another good one John.
I think Obama actually believed the things he said shortly before his election and after, about how the arab and muslim nations would love us because of him, and how the world was already starting to heal, and the oceans beginning to recede with his election. And it didn't help any with his media flunkies telling him that he was "above G-d!"
Obama is all about himself, and he doesn't want to be made to look like the petulant child he is by a real man.

Good lORD!! Could these jerks be more rude or disdainful of PM Netanyahu??
The irony is that, when zero goes to a foreign country (on a rare state visit - NOT a vacation!!), he expects to be treated as though he were God, Himself! BUT, when a rare head of state comes to America and wants to meet with him, he doesn't have time. Disgraceful!!
I hope that on Nov. 6, MOST Americans just won't be able to re-elect zero and his crew of amatuers and incompetents.
I should have read the link more closely.
Ya got me, John!!
