Therefore, its not that the Mayans were predicting the end of the world. Based on their calculations of a five thousand year cycle they predicted that one event calendar was ending on December 21, 2012 and another one beginning on December 22, 2012. In other words, they were simply predicting the end of the five thousand year solar or planetary calendar. Although their scientists and astronomers did look for and anticipated natural disasters, they did not view them as world ending events.

The Mayans didn’t have a leap year. The Mayan year of 2012 ended in July of 2011.
That’s right, folks, according to the Mayan Calendar “2012” has come and gone. And we’re still here.
If the mayans were so smart, how come they are extinct?

Absolutely hilarious. I didn’t even think of that. A lot of people have a very romantic notion of all of the stone age cultures and how wise they were. By what means could they possibly predict the end of the world. I have zero respect for anyone who buys into these ancient predictions. I know several people who are sure the world is going to end in December and now you point out that the date has already come and gone. How funny is that?
Besides, we have no guarantee that any of us will live long enough to see if this prediction comes true or not. Those who are fearing the end of the world may die of something else before that date even gets here.
