Illegal Immigrants Pay Income Tax, Won't Get Deported Says Initiative

SACRAMENTO, Calif- A new tax proposal could be the answer to our state's budget mess. The proposal? Tax illegal immigrants.

The people behind the initiative said they can get illegal immigrants to pay income taxes, but first the Governor must get a promise from the federal government, it won't go after anyone here illegally and is part of the program.

"Trying to get the federal government to not spend resources on those folks who are filing and paying I don't know why that would come about, I would suspect some sort of political motivation in Sacramento visa vie Washington."

Attorney Blanca Zarazua deals with tax law and is an honorary consul for Mexico. She said the proposed five year program that uses a no-deportation incentive to push undocumented workers to pay state income taxes may not be necessary

"Once they find out there is that requirment, historically there has been enough years where people have filed returns and there is no referral to immigration. So I think the word is out that it's a good thing to do and it won't result in an immigration referral."

According to some recent independent studies there's proof that illegal immigrants are filing taxes.

Infact a 2010 study by the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy found California got $2.7 billion dollars from illegal immigrants including sales, property and income tax.

Zarazua said locally if undocumented workers have the means, they will file and it seems this is another option to get the state some much needed cash

“Just how can they pay income taxes without using fake or stolen documents ?”

I’m in mexifornia and a person I know personally who became a naturalized citizen a year ago started as an illegal for many years. The difference is that he/she registered her ITIN which allows them to pay taxes because the objective was to get a green card, then to citizenship. In order to apply for a permanent resident card, they will need to show proof that he/she was paying taxes, employed legally and not leeching off the system.

“According to some recent independent studies there’s proof that illegal immigrants are filing taxes.”

The correct language is “illegal immigrants are filing tax returns.” The dummies in the news media do not know the difference between filing an income tax return and paying income taxes. Illegals file tax returns that have low income and no income tax due. They do it in order to get a TIN (taxpayer identification number) that they can use as a form of indentity. One person can get multiple TIN’s by filing multiple phony tax returns. There were illegals who got home mortgages a few years ago doing this, of course they defaulted and the rest of us paid.

Also, illegal aliens who have U.S. citizen anchor babies file tax returns in order to get the refundable child tax credits. Thankfully, at this time they cannot get the earned income tax credit refunds without a valid SSN. They don’t pay income taxes. They are parasites!

Let me ask this of you, the ITIN is only good for filing taxes, meanwhile one cannot use this same ITIN on employment applications, where it ask for SS #, no where does it say ITIN can be used in place of SS#. To have taxes deducted,it would require a SS #.

This is such BS! Deport the illegals and give the jobs to anyone legal and let them pay the taxes! No I don’t care if they’ve been here 5 years. They are illegal Period. What is so hard about this?

Err ya go moonshinner_09, thinking of the system like it is supposed to work for everyone.
There be rules and laws and jails for all of us regular law abiding folks, and then there be the 'exceptions' for those that make the laws, break the laws and use the laws for their own personal gain, a.k.a. crooked politicians and anyone who will vote for them.
Slavery is illegal too...and there be many who will tell you it has been abolished in this country. But anyone with eyes can see that it has only taken another form. One that is being driven by corruptocrats and their business cronies. Their corrupt system of business operations not only weakens the employment opportunities for those who legally reside in this country, it places huge demands on our entire tax based infrastructure.
Who is it that benefits the most from the illegal workers?
The American consumer? I don't tink soooo.
The American taxpayer? Not hardly.
The American worker? Hardee-har-har!
The illegally underpaid illegal worker? Maybe better than starving, but they have zero rights to protest any abuse. Who then?
Think about it. Follow the money, follow the power...you will find businesses making good profits from illegals and politicians that know how to exploit it.
Like 10 kids getting candy from a vending machine that just spits out goodies. Every one of them knows it is wrong, but who wants to spoil such a good thing?

It's virtually a capital offense to ask about immigration status in Calf. How do they know?

.. also and just as important "paying income tax" can mean filing and getting thousands of dollars in Earned Income "refunds" without ever paying a penny in taxes. Some ILLEGALs manage to do that.

The ITIN is a taxpayer ID number and there is a form for acceptance for it with the IRS and if not, how the heck are illegals able to apply for the eventual permanent resident status? In order to grant green card status, one must have SSS. Dude, I’m not defending illegals here because I’m probably the only Freeper who advocates placing landmines at the border. But the immigration system has holes that are big enough that also allows illegals to move up and be legal.

“Fake or stolen documents....” yes, 25-50 million times (MSM and Government lies about the 12 million illegal estimate), in fact.

When an illegal Mexican steals a social security number and it is the number of a currently-paying member, the SSA keeps track and separately logs payments, etc. to that number. That is why the SSA asks so many questions when you apply for your benefits, to include VERY SPECIFIC questions about sundry odd years of logged income amounts during one’s career (I’ve been there).....suffice it to say, if there is anyone out there that does not think the SSA looks the other way on duplicate numbers and contributions, you are a fool. It is a simple programming task to sift through the data.

That said, the most common tactic for illegal Mexicans is to use a false SS number and take the hit for the 7.65% Social Security contribution (what Democrats call Payroll Tax)but claim multiple exemptions/deductions so their state and federal income tax assessments are virtually nil. They will then claim the EITC benefit at the end of the year, all the while they are collecting WICs, AFDC, SNAP and whatever damned giveaway this administration is aching to give them....

You see these freeloading invaders daily, at K-Mart, WalMart, at Kroger, everywhere. They walk freely, they spend your dollars with WICs, SNAP and SCHIP...they speak only spanish and they are taking you for everything you’re worth.....your government helps them.

It is illegal for anyone to hire an illegal alien to work and it is illegal for an illegal alien to work. Paying taxes just legitimizes the illegal activity.

There must be more to this story than you know or are telling. You don't get a green card showing you have paid taxes after entering this country illegally and working illegally. And there will probably be instances of ID theft, driving illegally, etc. cibbected to such a person. He should have been deported, not given a green card.

They are getting EITC, eligible or not. They can use valid SSNs that don't belong to them. And illegals get a lot of benefits thru their American born children.

What income? They're getting paid under the table in non-traceable cash. That's how they're eligible for food stamps.

“Infact a 2010 study by the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy found California got $2.7 billion dollars from illegal immigrants including sales, property and income tax.”

Sure, Juan has to pay sales tax if he wants to walk out the door with his purchases and doesn’t want the checker calling security, and the county auditor will put his home in the tax sale if he doesn’t pay property taxes.

The only incentive I can see for him to file an income tax return is to receive the `tax credits’ (`refunds’) that a lot of people who pay no income taxes receive.

I’m going to search `Mexico’s honorary counsel’ Blanca Azuza, or whatever her nombre is, see if she’s a member of `The Race.’ The bottom line is that illegals are costing us a hell of a lot more than they contribute, as this article suggests.

You will be surprised at what magic immigration attorneys can come up with. Did you know that 1) you can get still acquire a green card even if ICE deports you? 2) you can still acquire a green card even if your sponsor dies? etc...

Why do you think immigration attorneys are in EACH page of Hoy, La Opinion, Filipino, Vietnames, Chinese and every ethnic newspaper in L.A.?

I am not surprised at all. I have been working full time on the immigration issue for five years as part of a grassroots organization that lobbies on the Hill and in Richmond. Would you be surprised to learn that 60% of the approximately 1 million green cards issued every year are change of status cases, i.e., from people already here?
