Shakeup at the Ministry of Security!
Honduran newspapers are reporting that both the Minister of Security, Oscar Alvarez, and the Vice Ministers Armando Calidonio and Roberto Romero Luna have been removed from their offices. La Tribuna is reporting that Alvarez is currently meeting with Porfirio Lobo Sosa.
Also removed was the head of the Police in San Pedro Sula, Hector Ivan Mejilla, and the head of the traffic police (Transitos) for northwest Honduras, Guillermo Arias.
The head of the northwest (San Pedro Sula) sector of the DNIC-- the national investigative police, equivalent to the FBI-- Oscar Garcia Mendez also is reported by Tiempo to have lost his office. El Heraldo says that General Marco Tulio Palma Rivera, the current national Director of the DNIC, is becoming head of the national police.
Tiempo says that the new Minister of Security is Pompeyo Bonilla, current head of CONATEL. El Heraldo reports that General Luis Muñoz Licona is moving into the cabinet as the Vice Minister of Security.

El Heraldo now reports that Ramon Sabillon Pineda will replace vice minister Calidonio. Sabillon Pineda was the head of operations for the national police prior to this elevation. General Jose Luis Muñoz Licona is the replacement for Vice Minister Roberto Romero Luna.
Now it looks like some big changes in the police and security agencies in Honduras.
Some have commented that those who were removed from their posts were all "nationalists", a label that I often find myself accepting.
Does anyone have a clue what to make of this??

I was cheering Honduras as they defied Obozo and Der Hilderbeast about remove of Mel Zelaya. With help of DeMint and others they finally were embarassed enough to back away from forcing reinstatement of Mel.
Now Mr. Lobo has been elected. The question that comes to my mind is, “has he been bought off”?
Some of the Dems in the U.S. are stirring up demonstrations in Israel and trying to oust Bibi. Are they on the ground again in Honduras??

Heading one off? I hope that is what is going on, but fear it might be the opposite.
First Mr. Lobo wants the UN to recognize Palestine. Not a normal position for an allay of Israel.
Next we see a huge internal shakeup. On top of that, Mel Zelaya is back in Honduras and making trouble.
There have been reports of murders of his supporters. I am not for that type of action, but it is clear the lefties are trying to take control of Honduras.
Very good observation. He tried to force Mel Zelaya back in power and failed. Now it is possible that he or others have bought/turned the new President, Mr. Lobo.

The president said that he planned to involve himself “directly in the subject of security with much more energy and force.”
With Alvarez gone, the administration has lost its largest crusader against police corruption, an extremely pressing issue for Honduras.
However, there appear to be other forces in play. Alvarez is very popular in Honduras, and is considered to be a potential presidential candidate for the 2013 elections.

I have the impression of Honduras as ballsy little pioneer in transparency and constitutional law. Not knowing the background of the personalities involved I can’t offer an informed opinion.
I hope the professional self serving pols don’t take over. I don’t think that will happen until there is some real money at stake.

8. (C) Lobo also sought the Ambassador’s help in finding a counterbalance to his popular designee for Security Minister, Oscar Alvarez. Lobo noted that Alvarez, who received the most votes of any congressional candidate in the November 2009 election, was an “empire builder,” and therefore Lobo wanted to find a designee for Vice Minister who would not be “Alvarez’s man.” (Note: Alvarez, who was Security Minister in the Maduro administration, has already stated his intent to select his former Vice Minister Armando Caledonio.
According to Honduran law, the Vice Minister position is nominated by the Minister, subject to approval by the President. End note.) Lobo noted security was not his area of expertise, and he hoped the Ambassador could suggest names of some qualified, clean candidates for the position who would not be beholden to Alvarez. He said on the matter of addressing the transnational threat of crime and trafficking, sovereignty was not an issue, and he welcomed U.S. inputs. The Ambassador said he would consult his security and law enforcement team on the matter.

Very bad mistake. Is that why he wanted the UN to declare Palestine a State? Obozo says he may veto, but he clearly wants the recognition, but does not want to loose the Jewish vote. He can kiss that bye.
