During last night's GOP debate, good old Newt Gingrich got a little pissy with Chris Wallace's "Gotcha" questions. Well, newsflash Mr. Speaker, every candidate up on that stage were victims of "Gotcha" questions. You're nothing special.
What was the "Gotcha" question? Newt, why did your entire campaign staff abandon you? After indulging in a rather lengthy "Gotcha" question dodge, he accused Wallace of playing "Mickey Mouse games."
And Wallace's response: If you think questions about your record are Mickey Mouse, Im sorry, I think those are questions a lot of people want to hear answers to, and youre responsible for your record.
Indeed, just as the Fox News team asked Romney why his businesses have laid off hundreds of workers, why Herman Cain hates Muslims, why Huntsman supports gay marriage, why Ron Paul supports Miranda rights for terrorists, and on and on.
I liked Wallace's witty little transition to Huntsman: At the risk of raising Speaker Gingrichs ire, Im going to ask about your record, sir.
Can I get a Gotcha?
At one time, Newt was a useful tool. But we’ve known for a very long time that he does not have the temperament for high office. Now maybe he’ll decide to weed himself out.
Frankly Brian, they all should have got a little pissy w Chris.
The media needs a few more pokes in the eye to remind them what’s important.
Chris will NOT ask Obama any similar questions, regarding his record.
Certainly nobody (in the MSM) challenged Obama on his record before his election.
The debates are supposed to be about the candidates, the issues, and where they disagree on these things. It’s not supposed to be about the moderators and their questions. When it becomes this type of circus, the moderators have failed. Newt was right and he didn’t make his comment strictly about the questions coming his way but rather he was commenting on the lack of real substance in the debate. I still won’t vote for him, though...
Newt may well be the best policy mind in the bunch and as with some other people with high intellects, he doesn’t suffer people he believes are intellectually inferior well. I think he’d be a good guy to have working quietly in the back office of the next President though..
What were you watching. I watched Newt, not jump to the top by any means, but certainly was raised from close to bottom to up in the top five in one debate.
Like the rest of the Junk Media Brian here doesn't seem to get it.
US Voters are NOT interested in watching "Journalists: clown for their "Journalist" brethren. We want to hear serious substantive questions asked about real issues facing us as a nation. We need to learn the candidates views and positions.
We do no need them interjecting their Journalist clown posse titanic egos into the the debate.
The Candidates, not the the morons asking the questions, are the story. Best thing the Junk Media can do for the US voters is get out of the way.
Well I do agree with that. The debate was somewhat of a circus. It was as if the moderators’ goal was solely to make the candidates feel uncomfortable, and that really took time away from the things the American people need to hear about - the issues.
But I don’t think Newt was discriminated against. Everyone got their fair share of “Gotcha” questions.
He won’t weed himself out until he’s thrown out. He needs the money from fool contributors to pay off the Tiffany’s bills for “Callista”......screw him. He’s just trying to supplement his income and get rid of some debt.
Oh, isn't that the truth. Even back in the 90s--before he had a lot of baggage on display--he kept showing us this habit of lashing out in an almost nasty way. Its a fatal flaw for politicians, who need to stop before they think and say everything with a smile. Its how Clinton played him like a fiddle.
And its an almost tragic flaw in the sense that he had so many good ideas in the early 90s. He attained a majority with a plan that excited conservatives. Then it started falling apart when he complained about his seating on Air Force One and the rest is history.
When you say you would not vote for Newt, question: if (not likely but if) It’s Newt and Obama , you will vote for Obama or you will not vote at all.
“Frankly Brian, they all should have got a little pissy w Chris.”
Bump
The debate was Fox sponsored. I’m sure the left thought that the candidates would get softball questions. These were not softball questions.
I’m not po’d over a single question asked last night. They were given time to answer and politics is a fierce beast. Just wait... the questions and attacks are going to get FAR WORSE.
The panel of sniveling inquistors were the biggest losers last night.
The objective should be to inform the viewers on the candidates.
The objective by that bunch, was to start fights between candidates and ask snotty questions, sometimes on false pretenses with out of context quotes for them to defend.
Fox went down to the bottom last night.
Our break-up is now complete.
And I won’t miss them.
Sarah bypassed the lame stream media circus last night.
She goes directly to the people, just like Ronald Reagan did.
Her bus, parked in Moline,Il last night, warranted a posting about THE BUS last night.
Her bus. She was in another state.
She is a political ROCK STAR. She IS all that.
She is on a mission from God.
She is gonna mop the floor with Obama. Just like Rush said.
(Heavy duty can of Troll Spray is at the ready)
I didn’t see the debate so I’m at a disadvantage but reading about it here it sure sounds like a legitimate question to me.
It’s NOT just about “the issues”. Anybody can spout off about the “issues”. Listen to Romney, he’ll tell you anything you want to hear.
Results matter.
What happened matters.
Character counts.
History matters.
Life-events matter.
Bravo to Wallace. FUNG. Back on the Pelosi couch with you, you globull warming POS.
If Newt cannot assemble a competent team that will stick together and represent his candidacy well; how the HELL does he think he is going to be able to run a Presidential administration?
It was a very apt question. A lot better than the one I would have asked him....
“Do you think Americans will accept, as First Lady, a woman who used to work for you and gave you oral sex in your car while you were married to your former wife?”
Now THAT, boys and girls, is a “Gotcha” question.
I hate these questions... they serve to say that “any candidate we give you will get your vote, so suck it up” from the RINO leadership. Let them sweat it if they try to give us another Bob Dole or John McCain!
Chris Wallace is a pissy little lefty weasel and he tried to play gotcha with the wrong guy. Should have known better. I enjoyed watching Chrissy get beach slapped with a plate of fava beans and a nice chianti.
Newt is morally bankrupt; not just with his personal life, but he is also in the back pocket of the ethanol lobby which has paid him a great deal of money to promote an increase of both ethanol mandates and sontinued subsidies.
