The Curious Absence of Gov Palin from Fox News
07/09/11 | Unseen1

Posted on 07/09/2011 6:35:03 AM PDT by unseen1

It is one of those things that people see but do not see. Gov Palin has not been seen on Fox News now for 34 days. From news reports Gov Palin is one of their most high paid commenters and yet they have chosen to not have her on air for an entire month plus. Her last appearance on Fox News was on June 5th 2011 where she appeared on Fox News Sunday. That appearance was one in which the anchor Chris Wallace called her performance "boffo" and remarked that for the first time he saw Gov Palin as a legitimate candidate for POTUS. After that, she made a brief appearance on Fox Business News channel in the middle of June. That appearance was also regarded as a strong performance.

Since the Fox News Sunday show, Fox has not scheduled Gov Palin on any show on their main news channel. They have done this even though Gov Palin continues to cause ratings to increase when she is on their channel. Per a press conference with Gov Palin during her Bus Tour and after her meeting with Ailes , Palin expressed that she was still under contract with Fox News and that she would let Fox News management know her plans in regards to a POTUS run sometime during the summer. So the question becomes why the absence from Fox news? If she is still under contract and still increases ratings for Fox News why does management not schedule her? Why continue to pay her but not use her? If Fox News thought her a candidate should they not have suspended her contract? Or at the least publicly announced she would not be on air until she made her decision like they did with Newt and Rick Santorum? And if they didn't consider her a candidate should they not have her scheduled to appear? Does Fox News management know something we do not? Does Fox News not want to give her a platform? Is there a movement by Fox News to keep Gov Palin's voice out of the conversation?

There have been reports that Palin and Fox News management have had a falling out. It has also been reported that the Fox News contract makes Palin unable to appear on competing News channels. What we can glean from the absence of Gov Palin from Fox News airwaves is that Fox News is fine with paying Gov Palin for no output. Why would Fox News management continue to pay Gov Palin in this regard? From a business stand point that makes no sense. Employers do not pay employees for no reason. What the reason is is anyone's guess. But never think for a minute there is no reason. Something is going on. A good reporter might ask what that something is.

Thoughts on the reason?

Who says she's being paid a salary? She could be being paid for each appearance, in which case if she doesn't appear she doesn't get paid.

Or there could be some other reason... we'll find out eventually, one would suppose.

Maybe she’s enjoying the last remnants of her freedom. Once she announces it will be 9+ years of unrelenting MSM bull****.

She seems to have disappeared from all media for a few weeks, since the end of the first phase of her bus tour. Have there been any recent Facebook posts from her?

I'm not sure she likes the Fox forum and doesn't want to open herself up anymore than she must.

I do not believe she will run if Perry runs and every new candidate means an adjustment.

It's all about options at this point. I don't think she wants it because I don't think she can win and she knows it, too.

She's a great talker and spirited member of our country. My hat is off to her for her ability to rile folks. But it's not enough.

Simple.
FOX has gone “native”—either commie, soros, or muzzie.
Take your pick.

The Ames Iowa event is just over a month out. I think her or Perry or both will need to make some noise up there if either one is truly going to get into the fray. Both have missed the drop dead date to enter the straw poll but that doesn’t prohibit them from being on site or participating in another manner.

Her TV appearances orginated from home studio in AK most of the time didn’t they? She’s been away from the studio hasn’t she? Of course she could go to another Fox location where ever she is and still be available.

As I recently pointed out on another thread, there are two kinds of Palin naysayers:

1) those who don’t want the truth to come out

2) those who think the truth can’t come out.

The first group are the liars, the second are the ones who give up without a fight.

good point but why if she is “after the money” as some on here say would she not schedule appearances then.

and yes there could be other reasons. But most of those other reasons tends to support the argument that she is running.

if Perry runs Palin will defintely run since Perry will take votes from bachmann and Mitt and give Palin a clear pathway to the nomination.

Palin has one of the strongest records in the gop field she is much more than a talker.

My prediction is that she is off the air until she comes out with her announcement to run in a couple of weeks. When she was in NY meeting with Roger they may have come to terms with her simply winding down her appearances until she either makes an announcement—or decides not to run.

That way, she avoids the potential negative press of being either suspended by Fox until she decides or being seen as ‘quitting’ Fox without a definite run. Also, she presumably racks up another few weeks of pay. They may have agreed to her taking a voluntary, unannounced hiatus for a certain period of time or until she decides.

Then again, perhaps there is a clause in her contract allowing her so many weeks of vacation and she’s simply chosen to use them now as a way to avoid Fox having to decide whether to suspend her until a decision.

Another, less attractive, scenario would involve Fox directing its hosts and producers simply not to program her. They may not want to give her the speculative boost that her unannounced campaign would get for their suspending her—nor the practical boost that her continuing appearances gave her. They may be pushing her to quit by not programming her, whereas such a break from public exposure may be just what she wants right now.

The show will feature such familiar FOX News personalities as Greg Gutfeld, Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Geraldo Rivera, Andrea Tantaros, Eric Bolling, Monica Crowley, Bob Beckel and Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Crap. Just another typical FOX cluster. I'm out.

well she is on jury duty. but the jury duty up there consists of calling in every day or week to see if she is needed. Not so much a obstacle for a 15 minute interview. Even when she was filming SPAK she was able to do fox news interviews. there is more too it I think. Esp considering the length of the absence. And considering it started with the Bus tour.

I don't know anything about what will happen, just what has happened. Gov. Palin has gone very quiet. Her last quiet period was broken by the announcement of the One Nation Tour, leading me to believe she is working on something to be announced.

As for whether “she wants it” or not, from everything I've read or heard from the Governor, it's never been about her. It's about service to our Country, which is the way it should be. Far too many ambitious politicians have the wrong reasons for running for higher office.

As to whether Gov. Palin can win or should she just remain a cheerleader, either way she will be the focus of media attacks. By not running, candidates could (possibly) end up avoiding her just to avoid any negative publicity (as we know most/all of the declared candidates are intimidated by the media). Since the media is going to do what they're going to do, Palin’s strongest platform would be as a candidate.

Gov. Perry still hasn't announced his candidacy, and still might decide against. Interesting that he seems to be waiting for some reason. I'm still not convinced he really wants to put forth the effort it would take, and I wouldn't blame him for that. Either way, I don't see any big enthusiasm from voters awaiting his decision. I guess that could change.

FOX couldn’t “muzzle” her if they wanted to. If she’s not in the media spotlight, it’s by choice. All she needs to do is let word out that she has something to say and she’ll be surrounded by fans/haters/and of course the media (hoping to find a derogatory).

jury duty is not a 24/7 event. From my understanding jury duty in AK is for 30 days and that is you have to call in everyday or every week to see if they need you. unless you are picked to by ona jury the rest of your time is your own. this would prevent say going on a week long bus tour but not giving a 15 min interview.

agreed. They couldn’t muzzle her. but they can deny her a platform to reach their viewers. viewers that are made up of a majority of gop voters.

I think the absence works for both of them or Palin would have done something about it or fox newes would have. But it only works for both if Palin is running correct?
