Obama's Order To Kill, Not Capture Bin Laden: Dead Men Don't Talk

Obama's order to kill not capture Bin Laden reminds me of a very personal episode from my life. In 1989 the Ceausescu couple was caught and executed by firing squad after a so-called "trial" that lasted less than 4o minutes, sentencing and execution included. No witnesses were allowed for the defendants and no public was present in the room...

So please excuse my doubts when I say Obama's order to kill not capture smells fishy to me. You don't order the outright assassination of a man who holds so many secrets that can be vital to the security of your country when you have a good opportunity to capture him - unless you have your own secrets related to that man and want him to be silent.

This guy is spot on!

Excuse me for being technical, but isn’t the president ordering an assassination illegal? Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the hit. But if this had been McCain, or Bush, or Palin, I imagine that we would be hearing a lot more about the legality of this.

This is why one of my personal theories for consideration is that Bin Laden was being held for us. While some may not like the idea that Bush knew and didn’t have him killed, the fact still remains that he would be the highest value prisoner. Frankly, the compound sounds like a relatively comfortable prison.

If true, Obama may have screwed us and the pakis hard in the process of stroking his ego and propping up his sagging poll numbers. We lose a source of intelligence and pakistan is likely to fall to the most radical faction.

Just a theory for consideration.

One other curious thing is the so called “stealth” helicopters that took bin laden by surprise at the very same moment a local blogger was tweeting about all the noise.

Not to stand up for ANYTHING Hussein does, but going after an enemy’s scalp is not illegal. It IS illegal for the US to put a price on the head of any state.

Another “What if this was Bush” story. You would here countless comments from the Left that Bush was covering up something by killing not capturing.

0bama didn’t order a damn thing. He wouldn’t make a decision one way or the other so Panetta had to give the go order.

Sorry

OBL was an Outlaw in every sense of the word.

In historical legal systems, an outlaw is a person declared as outside the protection of the law. In pre-modern societies, this takes the burden of active persecution of a criminal from the authorities. Instead, the criminal is withdrawn all legal protection, so that anyone is legally empowered to persecute or kill them. Outlawry was thus one of the harshest penalties in the legal system, since the outlaw had only himself to protect himself, but it also required no enforcement on the part of the justice system. In early Germanic law, the death penalty is conspicuously absent, and outlawing is the most extreme punishment, presumably amounting to a death sentence in practice.

And

In the common law of England, a “Writ of Outlawry” made the pronouncement Caput gerat lupinum (”Let his be a wolf’s head,” literally “May he bear a wolfish head”) with respect to its subject, using “head” to refer to the entire person (cf. “per capita”) and equating that person with a wolf in the eyes of the law: Not only was the subject deprived of all legal rights of the law being outside of the “law”, but others could kill him on sight as if he were a wolf or other wild animal.

Bush should have declared OBL an Outlaw on Day 1, posted the reward and let NAture take it’s course.

Obama did not give the order to kill. Neither did the General.

The order was to capture OBL. OBL’s guards/relatives had sworn orders to kill him if he was about to be captured. They did.

This screwed up the whole thing for the WH. They had to say there was a video blackout. The General had to take responsibility for saying he gave the kill order, when he didn’t. They were , of course, allowed to kill OBL if he gave them no choice, but that was a given before the raid.

Our WH/Pentagon decided it would be better if they said the SOF guys killed OBL. I mean, they would have, but they didn’t get the chance.

If this had happened 2007-2009, Pelosi/Reid would have been holding numerous Congressional Hearings commencing the day after the raid.

The New York Times would run 75 straight front-page stories on illegal wiretaps, torture, and the cold-blooded assassination of a beloved, sickly, agoraphobic Muslim Cleric who was no threat at all to this country.

I still have doubts that Obama actually ordered the killing of OBL. All we have is his word for that. Equally plausible that he held back, but field operatives took advantage of the opportunity under existing ROE (enemy combatant).

I just can’t see Obama doing it, but to his credit, it got done on his watch, whether he, Panetta, or the jolly green giant issued the order.

Obama cannot legally assassinate anyone, not while he is an usurper.

Or have we forgotten the fact he failed to qualify as POTUS?

I've been thinking something similar...

Consider this, Bin Laden thought that the Pakistanis were on his side, hiding him and protecting him. Bin Laden went about business as usual, thinking his location was unknown and we helped the illusion by concentrating our search for him along the Afghan border. However, Bin Laden was essentially living in an expensive fish bowl, where the CIA and the Pakistani security services could monitor everything that was going on and easily discover all his plans and cohorts. That could explain why there hasn't been a successful terrorist attack since 9/11 that could be traced directly back to him.

Then Obama comes along, his approval ratings are in the negatives. Trump is tearing him apart. The birther issue is starting to resonate. Unemployment and the economy are in the tank. He needs a huge accomplishment that take everyones focus off his problems and give him an opportunity to wrap himself in the flag, instantly erasing the doubts many people have about him. Well he decides to screw the Pakistanis, not only stabbing them in the back with the raid, but then blaming them for hiding Bin Laden. In the process he kills the goose that laid the golden egg and kept Americans safe from further attacks.

I hope I'm wrong. If this is a really how it went down, I can't see him getting away with it. Someone in the CIA or elsewhere is going to be so pissed, they will leak the whole thing.

Osama had always said he wouldn’t be taken alive...

he commited suicide...and Obama took his suicide as a cheap win to artifically get some balls...

SUICIDE...is the reason no photos were released...any forensic scientist would be able to tell by the exit wound above his left eye would be consistent with a hand gun fired into the roof of his mouth...

simple...explaination to it all....

Sorry, but when there is an outgoing war against an organization metastasized in hundred of terrorist cells spread around the world, the last thing you want is the supreme head of the organization dead and his secrets buried with him.
Kill him should have been the second option, capture the first. As it turns out from the newest reports released by the Obama regime, there was a single man firing back from the compound at the Navy Seals (the courier) and he was killed quickly in the first minute of the assault. The gutless Bin Laden and the rest of his companions didn’t fired a shot, they just ran and took cover under their beds - plenty of opportunity and no danger whatsoever for a team of 24 highly trained Navy Seals to capture Bin Laden without touching a hair on his beard. Yet, they were given the express order to kill not capture.
I am just wondering why such a treasure trove of intel that could have brought down the entire Al-Quaeda network was wasted with a bullet to the head of its leader. Why would you waste a golden opportunity to get that intel and end the war, deny Bin Laden a Muslim martyr death, put him on a humiliating trial and show the world what a gutless coward he really was.
