Open Letter to Carly Fiorina: Please Quit and Support Chuck DeVore
Posted on 15 May 2010 by admin Share

I am offering an open, heartfelt letter to Carly Fiorina, GOP candidate for U.S. Senate in California. I hope many people will send it to her and she will take this advice. I give this advice, as someone not paid for this commentary by any individual or by any campaign, though I do support Chuck DeVore. I write this to you Carly, because I am your age, I have been covering politics since the late 1970s and I have seen a lot of candidates waste money and go down in flames because they refuse to accept reality. I also, like you, care about California, and care deeply about getting this country back.

—-

Carly, it is time to bow out of the Senate race. Your campaign is over. You will not win this fall if you are the nominee, for reasons I will explain below. If you split the conservative vote in the primary vote June 8, you will personally be responsible, through your own hubris, for enabling Tom Campbell to become the nominee to run against Barbara Boxer. Tom Campbell lost by 20 points in 2000 to Senator Diane Feinstein, one of the biggest margins of loss ever in a California statewide race. He will lose again, due to his support of tax increases and troubling ties to terrorist organizations. If you or Campbell are the nominee, Barbara Boxer will be our Senator again for six years. It will be your fault, Carly.

I cannot adequately express in words the spiritual and political significance of beating the arrogant, divisive, pro-abortion, pro-cap-and-trade, anti-military, elitist diva Senator Barbara (“Don’t Call me Ma’am”) Boxer. Retiring her is important to the future of this country and will be an overwhelming national emotional boost. It is my mission.

If you step aside now, and get behind full-steam with Chuck DeVore, you will be admired as a “unifier.” You will have a marvelous future ahead of you in some other race some other time soon. Now is not the time to waste any more of your own money on a disastrous course. You can come out of this way ahead, Carly, by stepping gracefully and graciously aside.

This race is too important to be lost because of ego and consultants who goad you to continue. The people you pay to help you do not care about you, the state of California, or what is best for this country. You are their paycheck and they will tell you to continue out of their own selfish reasons.

There are columnists nationwide standing by who will happily support you an another endeavor in the future. Trust me.

Search your heart, Carly, and decide soon. Your decision to unify conservatives in California will be a fatal blow to the Democratic party and will possibly impact the governor’s race and other races in a very positive way. Your decision to unify the California GOP conservatives and independents will show other candidates in other states a formula for taking back Congress this fall. Your decision to continue in this race will ensure that Barbara Boxer is our Senator for six more years. Don’t let that happen.

Here are the reasons why to stop your campaign now and get behind Chuck DeVore:

1. Friday’s Rasmussen poll shows conservative Chuck DeVore trending up in all categories. You are hemorrhaging support. Your ” very unfavorable” ratings are now at 21%. Chuck’s are at 12%. The poll show Chuck is now more likely to beat Boxer than you are.

2. Friday’s California Tea Party poll shows DeVore now has the support of 54% of the 10,000 tea party members surveyed by email. You just appeared at the Tea Party Day protest in Pleasanton April 15. Obviously, you have had a chance, but are not “selling” well with the tea party movement.

3. Sarah Palin’s endorsement of you last week served to alienate voters against you and Sarah. The subsequent Sarah Palin PAC paid-bloggingthat was done by dozens of Palin PAC websites in your behalf and against Chuck DeVore apparently tried to create a false “grassroots” approval. Instead, it was seen as a “negative” “astro-turf” type of campaigning that is distasteful to many of the tea party volunteers. Ms. Palin’s Facebook website, where she made the endorsement, has received thousands of negative comments. It is not a good thing to be attempting to undermine another tea party pro-life conservative, when you are claiming to be one. Chuck DeVore’s credentials have no blemish.

4. UNCOVERAGE.net reported last weekend that your campaign’s attorney, Charles Bell, (who is also the attorney for the California Republican party and has been involved with the National Republican Senatorial Committee) formed a 527 political action committee called “California Citizens for Ethics in Government.” As my investigation showed, the committee purported to be an “independent citizens group” and wrote letters to the California Attorney General Jerry Brown and the Federal Elections commission, asking that Chuck DeVore be charged with election fraud, because his campaign volunteers work in his state office. It may, in fact, be a violation of campaign laws for Mr. Bell to be serving you and the GOP and making phony allegations through a shill organization. That will be for someone else to decide.

At the very least, this type of campaign tactic against a fellow Republican is not ethical and should be condemned by you and your organization. This was a clumsy cloak-and-dagger attempt to discredit Chuck DeVore in the waning weeks of the campaign. Instead it was found out by me and called out. Shame on all involved for their failure to apologize to Chuck DeVore.

5. There is a civil and criminal investigation of Hewlett Packard for allegations of bribery in Russia and Germany during the time that you were CEO at Hewlett Packard. Three employees of HP have been arrested and searches have been conducted in offices abroad. These probes have just begun and to some extent, are being controlled by the Obama administration via the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Attorney General. If you are running in the general election this fall, these investigations will no doubt “produce fruit” which will doom your candidacy and ensure the re-election of Barbara Boxer. It will not matter if the charges are later proven false or that you did nothing wrong. You will be tainted in time to affect the election. Denying that you have this “baggage” is to deny political reality and shows hubris.

6. You are, essentially, out of money now. You have already put in $2.5 million of your own funds. You have just announced you are putting in another $1 million for the next two weeks of media ads. I strongly urge you to resist your consultants who are counseling this waste of resources. You are being used in this race because you have your own money. They are showing poor stewardship of your money on such things as the “Demon Sheep” ad.

7. You have admitted publicly that you were “recruited” by the National Republican Senatorial Committee to run for Senate in California. This group has been responsible for the disastrous outcomes with John McCain 2008, Charlie Crist in Florida and Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania, to name just a few. These people, are “carpet-baggers” who have no interest in what is best for California and who is best suited to win a race. They have a proven losing record.

8. We are all very supportive of your recent heroic battle with breast cancer. In all honesty, there have been “whispered” concerns about your health right now and your prospects for good health in the future. This is a delicate way of saying that this race, this Senate seat, is too important to risk and perhaps you should take care of yourself.

9. The Democratic party and the Boxer campaign have already begun circulating the campaign “talking points” against you. There are many links, but the most exhaustive and conclusive one is by the liberal media critic, Media Matters. It exhaustively lists the inconsistencies in your positions, the 18,000 people you laid off from HP, your hypocrisy about the pro-life movement, immigration, and regulating the internet. The Media Matters list against you is copied in full below. These will be used against you and you will lose to Barbara Boxer. It is too much.

Chuck DeVore does not have any of this kind of negative baggage. Please support him. It is clear now from the polls and the facts that he has the best chance to beat Barbara Boxer.

Very truly,
Jane Jamison, UNCOVERAGE.net

In light of the Rasmussen Poll for the California Senate race released yesterday, I'm switching my support to DeVore for the CA primaries, and encouraging Carly Fiorina to drop out and support DeVore.

If neither Fiorina nor DeVore drop out, the conservative vote will be split, and Campbell will win the primary. Campbell is no better than Boxer as Senator.

The recent polling suggests Fiorina is trending downward in support, and would still not beat Campbell if DeVore withdraws.

The trends also suggest that DeVore has a better chance (of the two) to beat Campbell, and subsequently beat Boxer.

As a relative nobody, my opinion carries little or no weight. My switch of support from Fiorina to DeVore does not change my opinion that Sarah Palin is the only effective spokesperson and leader for the conservative movement to reclaim our nation.

Being on McCain’s team will make a big difference when she makes it to the U.S. Senate. Or, are you ignorant of some realities in the U.S. Senate?

Based on what’s been posted about her on this site over the last several months...yeah, that’ll happen.

Being on McCain’s team will make a big difference when she makes it to the U.S. Senate.

A big difference...in advancing the RINO agenda of progressivism, globalism, and fascism over a libertarian conservative, Tea Party, America First agenda!

Or, are you ignorant of some realities in the U.S. Senate?

RINOs will always screw you in the end!

Just say HELL NO to Fiorina, Whitman, Romney, McCain, et al.!

Based on what’s been posted about her on this site over the last several months...yeah, that’ll happen.

Prior to America's entry into WW-II, lots of corporate Americans were doing business with Hitler's Germany. Once we got dragged into the fray, they had to side with America over our enemy. All of them were forgiven their stupidity and corporate short-sightedness, i.e. Ford Motor Company, for one.

Based on the polling and the reasoning in the above article, Fiorina will never win the Senate. Neither will Campbell.

Why should she? She’s Palin’s choice for the seat.

If McCain goes, I hope Arizona puts Republican J.D. Hayworth in his place.

Sarah Palin has repeated several times: "We should welcome these contested primaries."

She is correct, and she has endorsed candidates in congressional, senate, and governor's races across the country. We don't have to agree with, or support, all of her choices for endorsements. We are obligated to participate in our state's primary and general election races, with just as much enthusiasm for our chosen candidates.

I encourage the people of AZ to support JD Hayworth, against Palin's endorsement. I encourage the people of CA to support DeVore, against Palin's endorsement. Neither of these differences I have with Palin's endorsements diminish the overall effect of her nationwide strategy to retake our government from the destructive communist Democrats.

I encourage the people of other states to support their most electable conservative candidates against the Democrats and RINOs. Some of those include Michele Bachmann in WI, Nikki Haley in SC (if she can gain traction), Rubio in FL, and many others.

This is not a spectator sporting event. This is a fight for the life of the nation. The Obama agenda must be stopped, first by a defeat of the Democrat majority in congress in 2010 to stall funding over the next two years; then by a continued push to retake the White Hut, and further defeat congressional Democrats.

In the Senate, the whole bunch needs to be replaced with conservatives, just as Utah removed Bennett from the running in the primary.

I’m on the outside looking in since I’m not from California so maybe I’m missing something. How can Fiorina split the Conservative vote if, as the letter states, neither she nor Campbell are Conservatives and she is trending downward?

Superb letter, Jane. I doubt it will help because she has so much invested in this race, both financially and emotionally, that letting go might prove too difficult. I think if Sarah Palin can be persuaded to see things as you wrote in your letter, then she might be able to convince Fiorina. Why the heck is Sarah supporting Fiorina? I thought she was a solid Reagan Conservative. I don’t understand. Again, terrific letter. Let’s keep a good thought. :)

I'm not in California either, but their Senate race affects all Americans, as do all the Senate races.

Fiorina has more name recognition and money than DeVore. The vast majority of voters, even conservative voters, rely on name recognition and sound bites to cast their ballots.

If Fiorina does win the primary, she will be whacked in the general election for offshoring jobs and being involved in other scandals related to HP.

Why the heck is Sarah supporting Fiorina?

At the time Sarah endorsed Fiorina, Devore was lagging and dropping in polls and support. Ironically, it was Sarah's endorsement of Fiorina that has brought some additional support to DeVore.

The bottom line is that the California conservatives withheld support from DeVore for too long, until outside endorsements to counteract Campbell and Boxer became necessary.

(OK, quite a stretch on the play on words...)

Let's get DeVore in the Senate!
