We need to peel off one Democrat to kill this thing.
For those of you glued to your laptops when the abortion known as PelosiCare was passed a couple of weeks ago, this Saturday's fight in the Senate will consist of 10 hours of debate, which were won by Republicans in return for their not having the entire bill read on the floor.
According to Roll Call (subscription required, but the snippet is there), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) will join the other 39 Republicans in the filibuster.
The first vote is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., so, if my math is correct, the debate begins at 10:00 a.m. In any event, the debate will be all day, and this is crunch time.
Plain and simple: If you value your freedom, now is the time to melt the phone lines in your Senators' offices.
As Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) notes at RedState, a vote by Democrats to proceed to a debate is a vote on the substance of the bill.

Thats an excellent point. However i do not see more then a few (maybe 10 states) that will go against the Feds. Politics has become just that. I’ll sell out the future of whatever there is, just so i can have power and clout for the next 4 years. the world will eventually be ruled by 1 “president” and i set of rules. question is, how long till that happens

No, that is from a state legislature. Those politicians have been named in the press already.
My understanding is that there are two possibilities for a filibuster. First, to proceed—just to debate the bill. Second, to cut off debate—the cloture vote. It seems to me that the key vote will be the second one. It’s here that Nelson—and maybe Lincoln and Bayh—would weigh in. (I’ve given up on Landrieu.) And if Lieberman is being honest, it’s here that he’ll vote no to shut off debate, siding with Republicans.
this vote on SAT is not final cloture to proceed to a vote on the legislation. (Drudge is reporting it like this is THE VOTE to pass the legislation.)

The states were all but evicerated with the 17th amendment. The Senators used to be appointed by the state legislature but then some genius got the novel idea of having them elected by popular vote the same way that representatives were elected. It was the point at which the Republic’s destruction began to speed up.
All it would take would be one state. A state would have standing to challenge the Congress in the Supreme Court. It’s already apparent to conservative legal scholars that this bill is unconstitutional, mandating limits on our freedoms and on the freedom of the states themselves. A challenge in the courts would be the next line of attack should this bill pass.
Correct. **BUT** if it passes this Saturday, then all they need is a simple majority to pass the final Bill and send it back to the House. Passing Saturday is as good as final passage. It must DIE DIE DIE this Saturday!

Yeah, I agree, Lincoln is the most vulnerable dem on this. She's the one to pressure and offer support to if she votes no.
There won’t be a nuclear option. That’s the last thing the dems want. The bill is a comprehensive takeover by the government. By subjecting it to reconciliation, key parts of the bill would be missing. Even worse, the bill would expire after five years unless renewed by Congress. It’s not going to happen. It’s a threat designed to frighten moderates and Republicans—but nobody’s buying it. A more likely scenario would be the attempt to peel away Snowe by offering her the trigger option. Lieberman might also go for that. It’s the fall-back position. But I don’t think Nelson or Bayh would go for that compromise. I think they both really dislike the bill.
The vote is on starting the debate.
So, Lincoln is unlikely to vote against it.
I’m not sure pressure works anymore. They are hearing it from both sides. Either they see the ramifications to the country—or they don’t. Most moderates are appalled at the probable costs. There are at least ten moderates who have expressed qualms:
Nelson of NE
Nelson of FL
Bayh
Lincoln
Warner
Pryor
Lieberman
Dorgan
Webb
McCaskill
And maybe even Feinstein of CA who has publicly complained about placing more mandates on her state.
This is not just a Republican nightmare.
There’s no stopping this. And you’ll be amazed how easily it will pass the Senate. A year from now, the attitude will be “We got socialized medicine, and the world didn’t end! Those demotards were right.” 2010 will not be a bloodbath, people forget. And the ugly stuff doesn’t hit until 2013, remember. That is deliberately planned.
The GOP will be lucky to pick up twenty seats in the House, maybe even ten. The republic has been dying for decades; the ascension of Teleprompter Jesus is just the arrival of the minister for the funeral. Barry was right, the Nation Below Canada is no more exceptional than Greece or Turkey or Zimbabwe. The voters have seen to that.
It is time to sack DC.

Reid hasn’t got a lock on 60 votes—not by a long shot. You think senators don’t read polls? You think they didn’t notice independents in VA and NJ went for the GOP two-to-one? You think they don’t realize the public hates this bill? You think it’s only Nelson or Lincoln who will be hard to pin down? Take Dorgan of North Dakota. He’s high in the polls—but Gov. Hoeven is even higher—and there’s talk about his running against Dorgan. If he does, Dorgan is finished. You think he doesn’t worry about how his vote will effect that race? And Dorgan’s only one among many. You think Warner and Webb didn’t notice what happened in VA? You think Feinstein isn’t worried about piling even more debt on CA with a huge state mandate?
And you’re totally wrong about 2010. Did you see what happened at the townhalls and at the Washington march this August? You think people aren’t raging mad about this usurpation of their freedom? You think they’re not in the mood to throw the bums out? Think again. All the polls show otherwise. Nobody who knows politics is ignoring these signposts. On the contrary, we’re in a cold civil war—and the liberals have awakened a sleeping giant. The people are awake and alert and fighting made. Heads are going to roll.
You’re right about Dorgan. ND is pretty solidly conservative. No way he votes Yes and lives.
