Considering that top Christian leaders in the UK actually backed the opening of the Sharia Courts there, I guess that this should come as no surprise. The slow suicide continues.

The school says she can wear a brooch. Is there a no-necklace policy at the school? If it were my kid, she’d be back at school tomorrow with the chain removed and the cross pinned to her shirt. Let’s get the school to finally admit that its the cross that’s not welcome.

“I’ve got no problem with any other religion wearing bangles but why can’t my daughter wear a necklace with a cross?

“After all, it’s a church-led school.

Coming to America soon?

Question:

Is the problem that it has a cross or that it is a necklace?

I suppose stoning a girl for an honor killing is ok, but wearing a cross is not allowed.

She added: “A letter said that if she had been a Sikh she would be allowed to wear bangles.

Bangles can hang from a bracelet or necklace.

That’s a good idea.

She added: “A letter said that if she had been a Sikh she would be allowed to wear bangles.

(Bangles can hang from a bracelet or necklace.)

It’s a church led school for crying out loud. What’s next. Coming to a country near us...

Bangles can hang from a bracelet or necklace.

I always thought a bangle is the bracelet itself (unless it's a bangle AKA hoop earring), no?

Last year a Sikh-Welsh girl won a High Court ruling allowing her to wear her bangle. Her school, like many others, had previously prohibited all jewelry except watches & earrings (mostly for safety reasons, I'd imagine.)

So now all schools are evidently required to make an exception for their Sikh students wearing bangles, & no doubt soon Christian girls will mount a challenge as well to get a ruling for their necklaces with crosses.

How about a cross embroidered to the uniform.

This is really bizarre. I gather there’s no separation of church & state in that country, which is one reason why it was so important to our founding fathers.

They are heading towards no separation between Mosque and state over there.

That's too simple a solution you see.;-)

Still, I can say as a Roman Catholic (who grew up going to private RC girls' schools where we did indeed wear blazers embroidered with a cross in the insignia just as per your suggestion), I also wore permanently around my neck a cross given to me by my grandmother when I was born. Or I did until I lost it -- it's currently sitting on the bottom of Lake Travis in TX. I would have been pretty irked too if a Sikh girl could wear a symbol of her faith while I'd be compelled to remove my cross at our sister school in Surrey.

So, I dunno. I'm thinking UK schools are eventually going to have to admit that sometimes they can't win for losing, and give up their attempt to shield themselves from liability on student safety issues with their banned dangling jewelry rule altogether thanks to the High Court's bangle girl ruling.
