Former U.S. President Carter Criticizes “Subservient” Blair

Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter derided British Prime Minister Tony Blair for being “so compliant and subservient” to the Bush administration in Washington. “I have been surprised and extremely disappointed with Tony Blair’s behavior,” said Carter. “He is aligning himself with Bush and America when he should be joining with other Europeans to urge moderation in our dealings with those who have a different world view.”

“We now have a situation where America is so unpopular overseas that, even in countries like Egypt and Jordan, our approval ratings are less than five percent,” said Carter, who pointed out that America’s approval ratings were twice as high when he was in the White House from 1977 to 1981.

“When America suffered the 9/11 attacks, when our embassy in Iran was taken hostage, we had the sympathy of the world,” Carter added. “Bush has squandered that sympathy through his efforts to fight back. Fighting is hard and risky. You have to take action. You might not win. Sympathy is given to you. You don’t need to taken any action. You can’t lose.”

“Bush has chosen the high risk option and Blair has been a prime enabler of this risky behavior,” Carter concluded.

Man, I wish the Grim Reaper would visit Carter soon! Carter talks WAY too much for a retired "president."

Funny thing about Mr. Peanut. Even in political parody, you can't tell the difference from what he might actually say.

Considering the way the Mullah's made you their bitch in 1979 Jimmy, I would not be casting stones. EVEN if Jimmy's hysterics were true at least Blair is supporting his ALLIES instead of the enemies of all Civilization.

"He is aligning himself with Bush and America"

OMG!  And this guy was President?  Republicans need to have this as a sound bite and broadcast it often during the elections to show the average American just what type of "patriots" the demmies are.

Unbelievable that this guy once had our entire security in his hands.

Jimmy Carter is a total idiot and a jackass to boot. Blair probably supported Iraq War because he believed the Saddam funded greatly much of the Palestinian terrorist and Blair wants to see a Palestinian homeland. Liberals prove just how intellectually vacant they are when they say this stuff. But of course they think that all that is neccessary to demonstrate your an intelligent person is simply hate christians. They're pathetic.

Jimmy Carter was against Britain during the Falkland Islands War between Argentina and England in 1982. Jimmy Carter is a absolute knee-jerk anti-American/Britain.

Carter has been a shameless failure both as president and ex-president. His disastrous handling of the Iranian crisis in 1979 when Americans were held hostage for more than a year convinced the Ayatollah Khomeini that we were a "paper tiger". That belief has probably persisted and exacerbated the present situation.

Carter also has no class. Remember the funeral of the woman who was a civil rights leader? He used the occasion to give a diatribe against Bush.

If he had truly learned from his own mistakes and sought to convey some lessons learned he would deserve a hearing.

It was said of the Bourbons that they learned nothing and forgot nothing. An apt description of our peanut president!
