JunkYardBlog has coined a fascinating new word to add to our lexicon. Perhaps with enough use and exposure, it might even be made an entry in the new OED.
"Verrücktenfreude" There’s a word in German, “schadenfreude”, which refers to the malicious pleasure we sometimes take in the misfortunes of others. “Schade” is like “Too bad”, or “that’s a shame”, and “freude” means “joy”.
I think we need a new word. “Verrückt” is German for “crazy”, “nutty”, or “psycho”. (Actually there’s supposed to be an umlaut over the u, but I can’t make that show up through Movable Type [fixed —Duty Officer]). We sometimes take a little malicious pleasure in the insane excesses of our ideological opponents—their batty conclusions, their relentless hatred of America, their bizarre rhetoric, their self-righteous preening. When Deb Frisch, for example, goes off on a weirdo tangent hoping someone “JonBenets” a blogger’s two-year old son…well, as awful and frightening as that is, it’s fascinating. We can’t look away. We try not to stare, but there’s a little part of us that says, wow, that’s some awesome crazy goin’ on there.

Hmmm, kinda makes a nice tagline.
