Washington Republicans and Democrats vied in lockstep today to distance themselves from Tom Delays new book, Confessions of a Constitutional Mind. In a reported six figure deal with Simon & Schuster, Delay is expected to cash in on the ethics committee scandal thats rocked Congress.
The book is reported to be about conservatism, the U.S. Constitution and the direct violation of the courts in their interpretation of the Constitution, including a couple of chapters on his 20-year service as a CIA deep cover operative.
In those days, noted Chuck Woolery, former host of The Love Connection, we set him up as a Pest Control Technician and called him The Hammer. He was one of the best. I know I was there. Bush knew.
It wouldnt be prudent to kiss and tell, said former President and CIA Director, George Bush. After all, its a matter of ethics. But W knows what hes doing. Thats why I love him so much.
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi denounced the book as a sham. This whole CIA thingy is bogus, as well as this Constitution and courts process, corroded by conservatives, she said. Democrats will not be accomplices to it.
Rep. Alan Mollohan of West Virginia, the senior Democrat on the ethics committee, said he knew of no problem with the courts. This book is just more lies, conspiracy theories and inflammatory rhetoric designed to divide America. On top of that, hes raking in millions. Its appalling.
Senator Chafee, R-RI, fired back, Id rather the committee investigate Delay now. The sooner we find something on him the better. Hes going to make moderate Republicans look like weak-kneed milk toast. Its time to nail The Hammer, or Ill never get reelected in 2006.
Tom's conduct," Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT) is quoted by AP as saying, "is hurting the Republican Party, is hurting this Republican majority and it is hurting any Republican who is up for re-election. And this book is another reason to send him packing. We dont need another Newt Gingrich on The Hill.
Despite the Congressional gridlock, Democrats and Republicans have agreed that both Chuck Woolery and Tom Delay should step aside now. Who knows if well reach an agreement, said Rep. Bob Bar, R-GA. No one in Washington seems to know anything about the Constitution.
