Do colognes go out of style? (Engaging with Twitter person who was shocked to pass by someone wearing Drakkar Noir).

OK, I'm an old Gen X-er.

I recall the Trifecta of 1980s men's colognes: Drakkar Noir, Polo for Men, and Paco Rabanne. Am I missing anything?

My favorite was Drakkar. I practically bathed in the stuff, thinking it would mask my cigarette and weed smoke from my parents (it didn't).

Anyhow, a Twitter person I follow seemed genuinely shocked to pass someone wearing Drakkar. This begs the question. Do scents go out of style?

As a very young man I wore cologne, but as I matured I realized that women REALLY go crazy over a man who is freshly showered with a good deodorant soap (especially Safeguard), good deodorant, and an after-shower body powder (I recommend Shower to Shower). The girls will be all over you.

Don’t forget Brut and Hai Karate. Those were my go to scents back in the 70s.

Most do.
Some like Chanel No. 5, Bvlgari, etc. probably not.

The smell of Poison will always remind me of gorgeous high school girls of the 80s.

Yes!

My high school girlfriend back in 1984 wore Poison. Damn, it brings back memories.

It's not that it smells bad, it's that people equate it with their dad or an older person and thus psychologically don't want to associate with it because they don't want to be old. Drakkar Noir also became stereotyped as something Yuppie jerks would bathe in, which I never really witnessed.

Personally I use Dolce & Gabbana's The One, whixb is apparently a popular Millennial cologne, but I also use Channel's Pour Monsieur which is super old fashioned. I never cared about being considered old fashioned, I like what I like.

Lagerfeld will always be my dad's cologne though, don't think I could ever wear it myself.

Old Spice always reminds me of my father. He’d be 102 now. I bought a bottle to keep in my medicine cabinet and smell it occasionally.

According to my wife, most men don't know how to wear cologne. Spray it on your collar, not on your skin.

I learned this from my Navy days….”

Hmmm… I looked at your linked catalog. Some expensive items there. When wearing them, does the aroma evoke sweaty camel or drunken sailor? Just kidding about that. But I did learn something about oud resin.

I have an Arabian oud. It’s not a cologne though.

Old Spice changed their scent back in 2016. Which was too bad. It’s not as good anymore.

My sweetheart in the 60s wore English Leather.

Well, it wasn't me, then. I wore Jade East.

I appreciated the guys who wore Chaps, Drakkar, and Cool Water (that may be 90s).

I’m kind of surprised they did that. They spent all that effort to get Millennial guys to start buying their cologne and deodorant again, and then just went ahead and changed it.

You’ll ban me from FR for this, but the girls I knew in the day were more likely to wear patchouli.

English Leather was my go to bottle in high school...well, at least one of my go to bottles.

Always liked that wood top.
