West Virginia is a Northern State, like it or not. It separated from Virginia during the war.

I notice a LOT more conservatives down here despite the issues you mention - even schoolteachers aren't afraid of hering the word "God". Perhaps you might want to spend a few years living it so your opinion has some foundation behind it. Your neck of the woods is far more likely to vote Obama than where I live despite all them poor greedy southern hicks eating up all the liberal North's largess.
