The core issue is that changing political mores have established the systematic promotion of the unqualified and sidelining of the competent. This has continually weakened our society’s ability to manage modern systems. At its inception, it represented a break from the trend of the 1920s to the 1960s, when the direct meritocratic evaluation of competence became the norm across vast swaths of American society.

I used to think that civilization would because of low iq and low competence. But now I think that ai will will make a lot of dumb incompetent people look like geniuses. Consider, the third highest killer of Americans is hospital error . What happens when ai takes over a lot of those functions. What happens to the number annual car accident deaths when most of the cars on the road are driverless. These are the obvious things. A lot of corporate deaths happen because of incompetence and malfeasance in the C suite.. what happens when ai takes over a lot of their duties..
That’s only the start .
All aspects of society are collapsing around us. DEI’s race to the bottom. We have grown-up CEOs actively endorsing this downward spiral, which makes no sense whatsoever, but here we are.
An important article.
I have seen that many talented technical students are devoting their energy and skills to things like financial trading and social media, which is in line with your theory.
But that doesn't make their execution of LLMs "logical". The LLM generates output based on its training set. If that training set has a lot of illogical ideas so will the model's output.
Once again, Atlas Shrugged predicted the future.
I’ve come to realize that it’s fun competing for business with today’s incompetents. And there are many out there that truly are in the business world. Almost like taking candy from a baby when you focus on the job, communicate with all parties, and close the deal faster than anyone thinks it can be done.
I marvel at other people’s marveling about my work.
Normal stuff to me.
Keep your nose on your grindstone, keep your mind inside the 4 walls of your business, focus on your customers and product and whatever is outside can't touch you. It really is a strong point to make!!
It's an outstanding article.
It was posted here last June but never caught fire and petered out after only about 20 posts.
Complex Systems Won’t Survive the Competence Crisis (06/19/2023)
It truly needs to be understood because it is coming and the consequences are going to be disastrous.
Complex systems cannot function in a society where DEI has replaced meritocracy.
Additionally, complex systems cannot function in a society where brilliant but antisocial geniuses (aka "spergs") are forced out of the workplace by Human Resources because they make other workers (typically women) feel uncomfortable.
The problem with the women driving this crap is they think 3 women can have a baby in 3 months.
If you have never actually read Atlas Shrugged, you don’t have to now. You’re living in it.
If the training set is the entire internet, all bets are off.
You are correct. Bump it or repost it once in a while. Either way works!
Not weird at all. Lawfare is a huge problem. But there has also been a real problem with the education of America's future, her children. I contend this was done on purpose, because educated people are determined to reman free, whereas dumb people are more controllable., and they provide less competition for the wealthy elites. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Power is the means to the end for the wealthy.
Oddly enough, that does not seem to hold true for Trump, which us why he stands apart from other billionaires. Are Musk & Ramaswamy exceptions as well?
Time will tell.
We can confirm Trump is the real deal, because he has actually sacrificed, where as Musk & Ramaswamy have not, as od yet.
Darn keys keep changing positions on the keyboard. 🙂
And lack of “knowledge transfer” is why the Saturn V rockets couldn’t be built again.
