Most of the pyramids are hydraulic ram pumps to elevate water from the Nile to a height high enough to allow wooden aqueducts to carry water to the interior where most of the farm lands existed at the time. The climate was changing and drying out the interior. The base of the pyramids was walled in to hold the water before a stone valve opened and closed to force the water up inside the pyramid until it flowed into the aqueducts. Hydraulic ram pumps are used the world over.

They started out as tombs,

Except no one broke into the Great Pyramid until the muslims tunneled into it around 700 AD - it was empty then.

The very early pharaohs like Khufu could well be buried under their funeral temples - there are mysterious ‘drains’ - the term Egyptologists gave them, that can’t actually drain anything as they slant upward and outward. There construction is such that they seem to be designed to hold or lower heavy weights. They have been neglected since their discovery in the early 20th and late 19th centuries. Egypt antiquities has allowed no further examination since other that a brief walkthrough by Robert Temple 20 years ago.

Pretty much everything coming out of modern Egyptology is in upheaval so what was ‘true’ yesterday is disputed today. Most dating is based on various Kings Lists and Manetheo’s List - even-thought some of this is known to be forgeries, Egyptologists still use them.

What’s important to remember is what every is told must fit the established theme - anything that endangers this is a threat to Egypt’s National Security as the lion’s share of the country’s income is from tourism. Doubts cast could make people believe the whole thing is a fake - like some believe the Russo-Ukraine war is - and the country would face another disaster.

At what point does archaeology become grave desecration?

The interest in ancient graves stems from a curiosity regarding history. I guess you don’t suffer from the desire to know stuff.

I don’t think it ever does. The earth is for the living.

Perhaps it is a pessimistic and dark reflection but IMHO this fascination with vampires, the walking dead and malevolent spirits reflects how American culture itself has devolved over the last sixty years. Significant segments of the population have embraced drug use, abortion, homosexuality and all its perverse permutations, mindless dependency, child exploitation and abuse, miseducation and tolerance of all sorts of bizarre harmful behavior. Neo pagan earth and celerity worship has replaced traditional religion for many. Therefore Hollywood, which is at the core and reflects this decadence, makes movies and shows that feature these death themes.

Ok, I’ll bite...
To my mind, the pyramids are an increasing enigma
*razor sharp cuts in granite
*stones of size that modern cranes can barely lift and only in highly controlled settings.
* transporting those stones great distances, which cannot be explained by any marine shipping capabilities from the era we’re given
*astronomical alignment that is incredible
*no artifacts in the three largest pyramids suggest these were tombs
*MANY MANY other structures, pyramids and buildings, hundreds of flooring stones circling the structures which encompass the same unknown construction technology
*no, zero, nada hieroglyphs which show, explain, or depict the construction method
*no tools discovered which even come close to tools necessary to carve granite.
*Mathematical constants which point to very high concepts

What we may conclude...
Maybe the pyramids and sphinx are celestial calendars for future civilizations to warn or foretell of a coming event?

We have hints of catastrophism every 13k and 26k year intervals. Interestingly, the sphinx is aligned to star cycles which occur every 26k years.

...that is all

There was a river front right up to the pyramids way back then. The use of chariots must have caused global warming.

https://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/features/an-ancient-papyrus-reveals-how-the-great-pyramid-of-giza-was-built

“Water was harnessed to transport the huge stones.

Every summer, when the Nile flooded, giant dykes were opened to divert water from the river and channel it to the pyramid through a manmade canal system creating an inland port which allowed boats to dock very close to the work site — just a few hundred metres away from the growing pyramid.”

Thanks BenLurkin. Last time, the grandstanding moron Zahi "Zowie" Hawass claimed the results showed nothing, then made his usual anti-scientific claims about how muography (muons are always present, and have been bombarding the pyramids since construction) might damage the pyramids.

Fear of the unknown. Fear of people with different cultures or looks. ...

Well founded fears, in fact.

The fascination with grave digging is finding lost treasure.

The fascination with the undead is rule-breaking: Vampires don’t have to follow them. That’s what makes them cool: they’re outlaws. Sending them to hell is even cooler. And you can’t be charged with murder.

Put the two together and you have grave-robbing while performing a “service”:

“That treasure was the ill-gotten booty of a blood-thirsty vampire and I just sent him back to hell! I’ll just take his treasure as my reward. You’re welcome.”
