Photo of the rover landing by parachute
First view of it’s surrounding on the Red Planet.
Many liberals think we should go to Mars due to overpopulation. Let them! There are probably no Covid viruses there, so no masks required!
If only it did look like the Arizona desert...
I see one of my socks.
There is a place in the Mojave Desert of California situated between Barstow and Needles that looks just like the Mars pictures. Very little if any vegetation there.
Fortunaely, I’m in my 80’s and won’t be asked to colonize the place.
PING
Not by parachute. The rover was suspended from a powered craft that lowered it to the surface. After touchdown, the cables separated and the craft flew off to its doom.
-112° now on Mars so no going out tonight.
LOL

I can't help but wonder when some intrepid "Truther" -- with a vivid imagination and Photoshop -- will take a close look at the area marked by the green rectangle...
...and will declare the discovery of "The Ruins of an Ancient Martian City"?

P.S. JohnR: Why does PASTEing text into the Reply pane kill line wraps? (As opposed to text typed into a normal pane...)?
And the rovers findings? Its cold! Sandy and full of rocks! Theres no life....just like in the 70’s and 90’s! Another few billion wasted. Thanks NASA for nothing.
The engineering is a marvel. The sequence needed to land was amazing.
What happened to the rocket that the lander was held under by cables after the release? Did it fly off and do a landing itself or crash and how far away?
A weird thought just popped into what’s left of my brain......Wonder why “Stranger in a Strange Land” has never been made into a movie? Or has it?
All of the Mars photos remind me of southern Utah or the Four Corners area.
Looks like my backyard. That might explain that big “thingy” sitting in it!
“Mars is a planet entirely inhabited by alien robots.”
Read “Code of the Lifemaker”. A sci-fi novel where we find a world exactly like that. .. Titan....................

One day, when the Sun gets old and tired, it will become a Red Giant, that will be nearly as big as the orbit of Mars, consuming EVERYTHING INSIDE THAT CIRCLE....................................
