Full title: How the 'radical left' canceled the Pilgrims: Senator Tom Cotton says US ignored the 400th anniversary of The Mayflower's arrival because of the 'charlatans' at the 1619 Project who want to 'rewrite history'

November 21, 2020 is the 400th anniversary of the day the Mayflower arrived at what we now know as Plymouth, Massachusetts. The event is arguably the most important date in American history, marking the day the first Pilgrims came onto America's shores to establish the 13 Colonies/ Celebrations commemorating the event were postponed or canceled earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. But the historic day has come with little fanfare elsewhere.

Happy Mayflower Day!

Cotton wrote: 'Regrettably, we haven’t heard much about this year’s anniversary because the Pilgrims have fallen out of fashion in elite circles. 'Just this week, The New York Times food section published an article that called the Pilgrim story, including the First Thanksgiving, a “myth” and a “caricature.”

Ilhan Omar, never one to let a patriotic comment go unchallenged,.snarked in response to Cotton's Senate speech and Fox op-ed: "'When your sense of history doesn't go beyond your 3rd grade coloring books and actual history terrifies you... "

I had not heard a thing about it and I did watch Newsmax today. Can’t blame liberals if conservatives aren’t discussing it too. I don’t think we’ve ever celebrated this before.

The Pilgrims’ story will not go unrecognized in my household. I told and retold the story to my children every year as they grew up. This year they will get a much more adult version of the socialist utopia envisioned by the Pilgrims along with a comparison to current day Democrats and RINO visions.

in the words of William Bradford: “ For the young men, that were most able and fit for labour and service, did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work...” while the women complained of frailty. After 2 years, the colonists abandoned their 7-year communist contract, choosing instead to allow people to benefit from their own labor, lifting the colony from a cloud of thievery, famine and starvation to a land of well-nourished and industrious men and women.

Meanwhile...

The long bloody FAILED history of COMMUNISM...

And you can add to the following totals the now ONE MILLION PLUS (worldwide) already dead from the communist China virus that they KNOWINGLY set loose upon the world. .......

The Black Book of Communism, a scholarly accounting of communism’s crimes, counts about 94 million murdered by the supposed champions of the common man (20 million for the Soviets alone [65+ million for communist China under Mao Zedong]), and some say that number is too low.”

Grossly distorted and misleading! Evincing a poor understanding of American history!

Perhaps this is why our Left wants us to forget the Pilgrims:

Re: Pilgrims Canceled

Not to worry...

Today - Democrats will memorialize the 57th anniversary of JFK's death.

Kennedy was murdered by Lee Harvey Oswald, a Right wing nationalist who was wearing a MAGA cap when he was arrested.

The pilgrims were NOT the first to come ashore. A colony existed in Jamestown. The Mayflower wass headed to Jamestown when a storm blew them off course.

Virginia had a lot to do with forming this country.

With that said...as a kid in school, I got to go on the Mayflower as part of a 4-H trip. It’s one of my most favorite memories. Also present nearby was the USS Constitution. I didn’t get to go onboard but she was a beautiful site to see.

Back to the Matflower; it seems the just did a major renovation.

I don’t want to see history abandoned, neither should it be fictitious.

Yesterday I watched the movie “The Plymouth Adventure”, starring Spencer Tracy (who did an outstanding acting job), Van Johnson, and others. Excellent cast, great scenes on the Mayflower itself, especially the storm scene, and wonderful dialogue between the characters. Not a false note anywhere. Spencer Tracy should have gotten an Oscar for his superb acting in his role as the cantankerous Captain of the Mayflower. I highly recommend this movie directed by George Stevens (it was on TCM). Find it if you can, as it is perfect at this Thanksgiving time of year.

They were all slaves.

Slaves to the Church of England and they ran away from their masters to worship God, not a church dogma.

We're all descendents of slaves ....

Where's my reparations check !?

A good book about the Pilgrims: “Saints And Strangers” by George Willison.

Also “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims” is another good book, even if it is meant for children.

Thanks. I’d forgotten about that one. Haven’t read it, but might get it for our nieces and nephews if they don’t already have it.

Despite being for children, it’s also a good read for adults.
