Why is Oregon so effed up?

I was in the Portland area, Hillsboro, in mid February and it was beautiful. Took a drive on US27 to Cannon Beach and the drive was beautiful(it was actually sunny), and all the people were nice. The only thing that was negative were the gas prices.

The scenery is still outstanding and things are normal (other than covid) along 99% of your route even today. The “area” has not degenerated, just a few city blocks in Portland.

They read Ecotopia by Callenbach and The Velvet Monkeywrench by Muir, that told them how to be change agents focusing on this region. Like The Harrad Experiment by Rimmer in the sexual domain, none of this is an accident. There is a seed book for all of this change, example see Spiritual Materialism by Trungpa, that kicked it off.

Trustafarian wannabe anarchists and revolutionaries aggregate there.

Rich kids. Idle hands.

Well, I dunno. But I do remember back in about 1975 all the cars running around the state with the bumper stickers that said “Don’t Californicate Oregon”

Could be a clue.

Oregon has been that way for decades...One of the reasons we didn’t relocate there.

I think the big problem is Multnomah County - which is where Portland is.

We were “keeping Portland weird” and now the weirdos have morphed into bat shit crazy.

Not that long ago, during the financial meltdown, Multnomah Cty voted their government workers a raise - when the rest of the country was melting down. Either we’re just outvoted (many Californians here now) or something is fishy with the mail in voting.

For most of us who stay out of the city Oregon is a wonderful place. I have a great neighborhood, nothing is too far. It’s a gorgeous state.

Problem is “it” resides in the hearts of a zillion weak willed women (and their de-nutted men) across America. They have emotional mush for brains. It’s not just a few places cranking out these greedy, useless, loser progeny with hyper inflated egos.

It took many years of democrat control. Even now, only the democrat controlled portions of the state are truly effed up.

I haven’t seen a full-service gas station in Texas in years.

Why is Oregon so effed up?

Years of voting by mail.

The Founding Fathers knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they didn’t allow women into politics/govt. It wasn’t because they were “sexist”. It was because they knew their decision-making/actions etc were based on raw emotions rather than the important issues at hand.

I live in a suburb on the WA side. Pretty sane out here. I worry that a CRC type transportation package will allow Mutlnomah co. to infect Clark County with their lunacy.

By Oregon standards, sure. Not sure how California flight might impact that. I’d say that most of the south coast is fairly sane.

My argument is that it is the farthest point from the seat of power (DC) that any sense of “Americanism” is lost. I use the same argument to describe the former Soviet Union. The country was massive, covering 10 or 11 time zones. When you get away from what made the country what it is/was you loose the identity that most have. Just look at the map of Russia. You can’t hold that kind of diversity together for long because of regional identity. The people may still be smiling and friendly, but for many their identity as an American is gone.

With the U.S., the nuts seem to flow west, congregate, propagate, and continue on as though they were in their own country, forgetting where they came from and what they are a part of. The U.S. seems to be just old enough for 3rd or 4th generation people in California, Oregon, Hawaii, or Washington to reject what the vast majority of the country still stands for.

As far as I’m concerned, and as much as it pains me to say this, they’re on their own, and they have no one else to blame when everything comes crashing down around them.
