Carve off 75 miles of the coast from CA to WA and you are left with salt of the earth people.

Oregon is great. Just stay away from Portland and a few other I-5 cities.

I actually met one hippie in Cannon Beach. He asked me to get a cigar in a store he was banned from and gave me a $1.50. The actual cost was $1.75. It was funny though, as he complained about the cost of smokes, and I said thats liberals for you, and that he was lucky for not living in in Chicago, where a pack of smokes goes for $12 bucks.

The vast majority of the land area in Oregon is red as is the 70% of land area in Cali.

This is a clear demonstration of why the EC is mandated for the rest of our nation.

The Oregon Constitution banned blacks and "mulattoes" from the state until the provision was rendered void in 1925.

Section 35: No free negro or mulatto not residing in this state at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall come, reside or be within this state or hold any real estate, or make any contracts, or maintain any suit therein; and the legislative assembly shall provide by penal laws for the removal by public officers of all such negroes and mulattoes, and for their effectual exclusion from the state, and for the punishment of persons who shall bring them into the state, or employ or harbor them.

The racist language remained in the Oregon Consitution until 2002.

I think this is a large part of why Oregon is so F'ed up.

Why is it that liberals who got fed up with California insanity decided to move to conservative neighboring states and then proceeded to elect people who propose California solutions?

PORTLANDIA

... in Portland, Ore., where indolence is a virtue, and free time only creates more opportunities for not working.

The Portland of “Portlandia,” which begins on Friday on IFC, is a city where no one can complete a task: a couple ordering chicken in a restaurant are derailed by questions about its provenance; a man trying to patronize a bookstore is stymied by its flaky owners.

“A city where young people go to retire,” is how Jason (Fred Armisen) describes it to Donnie (Carrie Brownstein) in this comedy’s opening vignette ...”

It’s really just about 8 counties that give the rest of the state a bad name.

We came down from Tacoma and stayed at Cannon Beach a few years ago, on to Portland, took the Columbia River scenic route East to the far side of Oregon, circled back up to Seattle. NEVER saw a hint of what was coming. Beaches were beautiful, Portland interesting and friendly, outstanding scenery. Nothing would’ve led us to believe the area would degenerate that fast.

Personal theory: Oregon is and has been a destination for California bums for whom CA is too expensive and “conservative.”

Mary, Mary come with me,
On a hill we’ll take some tea,
And watch L.A. fall in the sea.

Last year, we drove from Portlandia to Bend to Brookings and the Redwoods and back up the coast to Portlandia. Beautiful state and friendly people. The only kooks we saw were in downtown Portland. Weird not pump your own gas.

It’s the exact same reason that effs up the state of Washington. A bunch of liberals, concentrated in one area plus the capitol (Portland & Salem in OR, Seattle & Olympia in WA). The concentration of liberals skews the political landscape so that, despite the rest of each state being more-or-less Normal, those areas seems to have most of the say in how the state looks to everyone else.
