Congress will exempt themselves again.
Most Canadians I’ve spoken with are honest enough to admit that it’s not “free”. They pay a substantial amount of taxes for it.
Those who are connected to those in charge get the short queue. The rest of us get cemetery plots.
When I am there, I will ask bartenders, waitresses/waiters, Cashiers, guests at B&Bs "How do you like your healthcare"? Almost without exception, they are love it.
One shop owner said that if they ever did away with their healthcare there would be a revolution.
Those over 65 do not have to pay for any drugs.
Although I am not in favor of universal coverage, I have yet to hear one complaint about their healthcare.
I recently treated a Canadian student studying here in the US.
I ordered an MRI and told him that he should have the study in the next two or three days and I’ll have the report back in about 5 days.
He was blown away. He told me in Canada it takes months to get an MRI.
.
Parts of ther health system is better than ours.
Much of their health system is very bad compared to ours.
I am for improving our syatem, but not by making it overall worse.
There was an elderly Canadian couple who were best friends of my parents. Elaine had developed a tumor behind one of her eyes and was put on an 8 month waiting list before it could be taken care of so she came to Detroit to see my BIL. He was able to get her into surgery the following week where they successfully removed the tumor.
Had she waited the 8 months, it was 100% certain she would have lost the eye.
One only has to do a search on MRI facilities here in S.E. Michigan and compare the results to Ontario. There are a number of them within a 10 mile radius of me and I can get in to see one within a week. Not so in Ontario.......
When the government is in charge of who gets treated, the government makes sure that the ones treated are the ones who vote for them, and give campaign contributions.
Aids treatment, abortion, euthanasia and sex-change procedures would be privileged, while cancer treatment for an old White lady would be held back.
Yes we do hear of such things...
its called the Veterans Administration...
The Canadian snowbirds here in southern Arizona just flock to mexico for their healthcare this time of year.
And to think, Bush wanted to model a healthcare plan for all, modeled on the V.A.!!!
i know someone who Darn near died twice while waiting the the queue- with a burst appendix
Brock Lesner- the mma fighter, had diverticulitis- he was i n canada- needed emergency surgery, and wisely came back to the US to get it-
one overlooked point is that the reason the socialized HC wait lines are so long is because everyone now gets ‘free HC’ so EVERYONE abuses it- going ot doctors for every little thing- they think “Heck, I’m paying taxes, might as well make use of it and soak the system by flooding the doctor’s offices every chance we get’
When people have to pay for insurance,e and have to pay insurance increases if they go over certain amounts, then people tend to only go to hospitals when it’s absolutely necessary- but when you give them HC for ‘free’ by taxing the hell out of them- they will ALWAYS abuse the system by running to the docs for every little ache, pain, or discomfort-
My case may be atypical but I was able to get an MRI within a week if I was willing to get it done at an odd hour at say 1 am. I was willing and did so. The relative fewer MRIs in Canada run round the clock and if I who am a nobody could do so I think most could. Now this was in Toronto so that may be atypical as well but that was my experience. The Canadian health care system is far from perfect but it’s not like everyone is dropping dead either.

Thanks for posting, eh.
My doc prescribed a med for me; told me it would cost about $45.00; I believe it was sarcasm, when he said, if you can get to Canada it’s $10.00 OTC...it’s called *XYZ* .
Hopefully, we’ll see if our meds in the USA, will come down in price....if I live long enuf.
And on the other side of the pond: The UK, and it’s wonderful and brilliantly managed National Health Service. My wife (UK ex-Pat) has a friend in Norwich who happened to have a serious issue with her foot that required surgery. For six months she waited for an appointment just to be seen by a specialist. In ever-increasing pain...she waited. Her day finally came and was diagnosed with tendon damage requiring surgery, and put on the waiting list. Horrified, she re-read the date of the surgery and asked how long she would have to wait with private medical insurance. The doc told her he could operate the next day. SEVEN YEARS later...she finally gets her foot surgery with the NHS! The NHS almost crippled her. THIS is what Bernie and the gang want for America.
My wife is Canadian so we spend a lot of time there. I have many horror stories that happened to her family members while they were getting their “free” healthcare. From my personal observations, the four hospitals in the Niagara Region are not up to US hospital cleanliness standards. The ER waiting times are not up to US standards. The wait times for diagnostic tests are not up to US standards. Taxes would, if implemented in the US, cause a revolution. I could go on, but, in closing, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
