No one needs a woodwind that big to play scales.... You ever play a bassoon? My daughter did in High School. Try playing scales on that thing, especially in the higher register.

My younger brother has a Masters in Music Performance from DePaul. His instrument is the oboe. His cost him somewhere around $8,000 IIRC.

A couple summers ago, some unknown neighbor called the police on my kids. They were in the backyard with some friends comparing airsoft guns. Three officers walked into the backyard, looked at the boys and said “Oh, toys. Have a nice day” and left.
