Trump unloads on DHS chief over immigration

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump berated Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen in a dispiriting Cabinet meeting on immigration Wednesday, according to three administration officials, but her colleagues denied reports that she has threatened to quit.

Trump lashed out at his Cabinet, and Nielsen in particular, when told that the number of people arrested for illegally crossing the Mexico border topped 50,000 for the second consecutive month. The blowup lasted more than 30 minutes, according to a person with knowledge of what transpired, as Trump's face reddened and he raised his voice, saying Nielsen needed to "close down" the border

“Bottom Line - no one should be surprised that border arrests surged at exactly the same time Trump offered Amnesty and citizenship to 1.8 million DACAs in exchange for a Border Wall.”

Let’s not LIE about Trump here. The rest of your posting I agree with, but Trump had a few more conditions, like MAJOR structural reforms to Chain Migration in exchange for DACA. In fact, if it was just the Wall for DACA, the Dems stated outright, Charles Sheumer, to be specific, that he would pass that through the Senate in 5 minutes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not crazy about Trump’s offer, even with his conditions, and I don’t mind factual criticism, but there are plenty other forums where people who want to misrepresent Trump while criticizing him can do just that, but it’s not appreciated here.

Kirstjen Nielsen, despite her appointment, remains a open borders proponent.

Amazes me what snowflakes Washington employees are. One brusque remark, one holler, and they are immediately to the presses crying their eyes out. They should all be forced to work in the rag trade, construction business or real estate before entering politics. These people need toughening up.

I think there must be some way for the justice department to appoint administrative judges or Special Masters to process these claims. At least to get through the backlog.

Bingo! Western culture has cucked the male of the species, and now can’t or won’t defend itself. There are a host of other unintended consequences from the feminization of the culture that are crippling also. If we don’t reverse course, we’re done.

Seriously, good leaders need to be hard on the staff sometimes. She’s gonna quit over a harsh rebuke from the boss?? Maybe she’s not the right person for the job. Suck it up, buttercup.

But my point is, why even have DOJ involved in any of it, unless they are caught in the interior and after some amount of time. Then have them go, asap, before some type of magistrate to issue the deportation orders.

If they’re caught at the border, point/port of entry, turn them around and send them back. No need for immigration judges and trials.

NO ENTRADA, should be the only two words they hear.

Lies or not, did she or did she not, tell 3rd world savages and dregs to come to ports of entry, so they’re legal?

I’d rather my DHS Secretary say something like...We’re Closed Until Further Notice

Trump signed the omnibus spending bill that doesn’t support building new parts of the wall and only spends a billion on border security.

Sorry to disappoint you, but our Constitution doesn't grant us a dictatorship Executive branch. Trump has to deal with the crap GOP Congressional leadership he was dealt with. And vetoing the bill would not have accomplished anything.

Work to get conservatives elected to The Hill instead of these Bush League Republicans and maybe we can get a spending bill more to his - and our - liking.

I agree with your comment, “President Trump seems to always be saying; “Don’t tell me why you can’t do your job. Tell me how you are getting it done.””

In the business world I found three types of individuals:
1) The producers - identified problems and found a way to fix them. These people were self starters and creative problem starters. These managers took ownership for results, good or bad, and were prudent risk takers. In times of crisis they were rock solid and steered the organization to safety.
2) The explainers - always had a good reason for suboptimal results. When given a project they followed direction explicitly. If something went wrong they always had an excuse and were constantly deflecting accountability to other employees. They might be ambitious, but they rose in the organization by aligning with people in power, not outstanding accomplishments of their own. When superior results occurred they always positioned themselves to take credit even when others did the work.
3) The complainers. These people did as little as they could to get by but always complained about being overworked. They arrived at the start of business hours and immediately went to the restroom. At 5:00 pm they were out the door. They took every minute of paid sick time, every day of vacation, and spent hours on personal telephone calls. Many had a chip on their shoulder and a sense of entitlement.

Successful organizations have a majority of #1’s. I suspect Trump is angry that the government is filled with #2’s and #3’s. He wants all #1’s as direct reports and is finding even at the cabinet secretary level he has people who have networked for decades and played the system yet really produce nothing (primarily #2’s). Perhaps some of his cabinet officers are party or government insiders who were referred to him and are climbers in the establishment, not producers.

Trump is also likely frustrated at the difficult of firing even senior people, much less the unproductive and dysfunctional #3’s filling the bureaucracy. In business, CEO’s can fire executives at will for almost any reason. The only cost is the severance paid to the departing employee. Severance payments are significant and tied to agreements not to sue and to keep quiet. In government any senior level firing has a political price for Trump which may be significant. Fired government employees write books, are portrayed as victims for weeks by the media, and may have power outside the government to negatively influence events for months or years to come. The political dimension of hiring and dismissing employees is new for Trump and I’m sure he finds it to be a huge waste of time.

One of Trumps biggest failings as president was his failure as a candidate to take seriously the job of putting together a powerful team of trusted leaders before election day. Neither Trump nor his pre-election transition team head Chris Christie did the work of having the 4000+ candidates for offices the president appoints vetted and ready to go. Essentially the process of building the administration began the day after the election. As a result, nearly two years later the administration is filled with Obama leftovers or Trump has acquiesced to appointing party hacks, like Sessions, to key roles in order to get the jobs filled.

Yes the Democrats have used procedural delays to slow down the Senate’s approval process. However, the bigger issue has been Trump’s inability to identify, vet, and nominate people for the positions. Had he announced his entire cabinet within a week of election, and asked the Senate to move forward with confirmation hearings prior to inauguration day, and had all 4000 appointees in the hands of the Senate for approval by inauguration day, he would be in a much better place today.

During the campaign Trump often bragged about the number of highly capable people he knew in the business world and would bring with him. Apparently Trump’s rolodex wasn’t as large as he thought or if it was many of those people had declined the opportunity to work for the administration.

Ultimately Trump is responsible and accountable for the leaders he appointed. I see him as the leader of an organization who is frustrated he has so few #1’s but is behaving as a #2, and sometimes #3, in dealing with the problem.

One man can’t do it all. If he fails it will be due to his failure to build a team of people he trusts and who deliver.

Because our corrupt court system has manufactured “rights” for them. We are the only country that doesn’t have refugee camps. We need those, at least on the borders. Put up tents, to p,ease the black robed overseers we could even have schools in them, they should be on the border itself so any children born are not US citizen. Keep them in the camps until the courts hear their case.

There are some really nice tents these days, or the can use the FEMA trailers, but they should not be released.

George W. Bush could have said that about not using his veto pen the first six years of his Administration.

So someone like Margaret Thatcher, who had a monthly situation, shouldn’t have had her position? Gina Haspel, CIA agent for over 30 years and worked during our authorized torture of prisoners time frame in our history shouldn’t have had her position due to her monthly situation?

Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester Operation IRAQI FREEDOM,Hester is the first female U.S. Army soldier to receive the Silver Star since World War II and the first ever to be cited for valor in close quarters combat. Yeah, read about the ambush of her team and her ability to take on 50 ENEMY fighters and lead her team. 27 ENEMY fighters left dead due to her leadership and valor under fire.

How about the women fly girls/aka WASPS in WW2? There are many more bada** women examples I could post.

So explain to me how having a monthly prevented these women from holding offices or doing jobs that women weren’t designed for.

Any woman who wants to pursue a position with great responsibility had better get used to the idea of taking a lot of heat in closed-door meetings. It comes with the territory in ANY management job.

If you can’t stand the heat, ladies, go back to the kitchen.

“Your misogynistic statement”

It is those who want to lure women out of their rightful role who hate them. Mark Twain said that he didn’t object to equality for women, but he couldn’t understand why they wanted to give up all that power.

“is unfounded by data. Let’s have data and analyze it before coming to such a conclusion.”

Turns out that the only study that has merit is the one that says 99% of studies are garbage. I have analyzed what I have seen over decades, and compared my findings with those of others, and that’s a lot better than what you’re going to get out of some academic “study.”

“I don’t know where you get the idea women (some, a few, many, a lot or all?) are not warriors.”

From observing the real world.

“I am almost 80 and I have found the numbers of “warriors” to be about equal between men and women.”

If you’re on the level there, I can only conclude that you don’t know what a warrior is. Further support for that proposition comes from your putting the word “warrior” in danger quotes.

“How old are you anyway?”

Almost 70, and widely experienced.

I stayed in one while deployed to Afghanistan. Good enough for the troops, damn sure good enough for illegal aliens.

But, I’d say that the camps, on the NORTH SIDE of the border are used to house illegal immigrants, that were caught in the interior of the country, for one night on their way back home.

The other tents, while they wait for a court hearing, are on the SOUTH SIDE of the river. Let the Dem’s and the Left start a fund to feed them and take care of them. And, I’ll even throw a bone. Allow, Doctors Without Borders to work in the camps and let them take any medical school student that might want to work off a little bit of their student loans, go there and get some experience. Of course, the Mexican government will provide security for any American that is willing to do that.

After a few weeks of living in and being told that they are #659,007 in line for an asylum hearing, they’ll head home. And another bone I’ll throw, I wouldn’t have any problem throwing them a few bucks to make it back home, provided they sign a document that will never attempt to come to the US, again, and if by chance they do make it over the border and they have a kid, their spawn will never receive citizenship.

Any woman who wants to pursue a position with great responsibility—for which she is suited—had better get married and raise children. Civilization cannot survive otherwise.

“Mark Twain said that he didn’t object to equality for women, but he couldn’t understand why they wanted to give up all that power.”

So true. A good example is the Suffrage Movement itself and resultant women’s right to vote. They couldn’t vote and effect change the normal way, so they drew on the power they had at home to influence their voting husbands, brothers, and fathers. Their power changed the world — maybe not in a good way. I dunno.
