Causes of Autism

Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Given the complexity of the disorder, and the fact that symptoms and severity vary, there are probably many causes. Both genetics and environment may play a role.

Genetics. Several different genes appear to be involved in autism spectrum disorder. For some children, autism spectrum disorder can be associated with a genetic disorder, such as Rett syndrome or fragile X syndrome. For other children, genetic changes (mutations) may increase the risk of autism spectrum disorder. Still other genes may affect brain development or the way that brain cells communicate, or they may determine the severity of symptoms. Some genetic mutations seem to be inherited, while others occur spontaneously. Environmental factors. Researchers are currently exploring whether factors such as viral infections, medications or complications during pregnancy, or air pollutants play a role in triggering autism spectrum disorder.

do believe there are a cadre of childhood diseases that vast majority of children weather and in turn, I believe, are stronger for experiencing them.””

Well, yes, if they weather them, but the dead ones don’t. Their survival is based on the same principles of immunoligical response as is the use of vaccines. However, vaccines don’t contain the live agent in most cases or perhaps a much smaller dose of an agent that has low virulence.

Three of my sons could be diagnosed as “Autism Spectrum” by the criteria currently in use in our county school system. Since we do not patronize the county school system, we have not had to deal with their criteria. We saw no benefit to securing a diagnosis, when we could, at home, accommodate behaviors such as compulsive alphabetizing, a phobia about toasters, and ten hours a day of math study.

I agree: we are not “touched by autism,” as generally understood, and I am grateful for that, just as I am grateful that none of our children has leukemia or diabetes or a brain tumor or a catastrophic food allergy.

I observed a mother of an adopted baby girl induce autism on her daughter by blocking any emotional bonding with her daughter and critical discipline of all emotional expression.

It was very sad as the girl is now 16 and on so many drugs she has never gone through the childhood stages of development.

Good point. Actually the methylation is an epigenetic process, right? Most people who have autistic children don’t want to think about the genetic role because it points the finger at them. But, no one is perfect.

Mild autism or Aspergers can often be a wonderful trait.

It facilitates super learning of a lot of data and makes excellent scientists and Dr’s.

I prefer a surgeon with a bit of OCD.

If it was genetic, changing the standards of ASD or increased screening practices you wouldn’t get this:

Graph: Rise in prevalence of Autism over time

Yes, yes you would. Lowering the standards of ASD could give you a graph just like the one you show.

Yes, many of the traits lumped under “autism spectrum” can have considerable economic and societal value. You want the person rejiggering your brain to have a level of intense focus that probably makes him pretty annoying at a potluck dinner. And you want an eccentric sorter like my Pat running your supply chain.

Our current economy is financially rewarding people with these traits more than was the case a few generations ago.

Fetal ultrasounds are completely unnecessary and must be looked st as causative

Any proof for that claim?

part toxins (food and health habits of parents creating child as well as mother while pregnant, child after the birth, environment too) also nurturing component/spiritual component too.

Once a suspected problem, many people get fixated on the problem and finding man made “cure” helps and continue to speak into the child that they have a problem (which is not just a problem with autism but all sorts of things adults speak into kids minds/hearts engraving a pattern of problem for life).

God can do wonders well beyond anything doctors or science can imagine. I’m not saying disregard doctors and all, just to not forget about God and His word on things.

i agree with you, now “autism” covers alot of stuff that is not necessarily autism.
Sorry I wasted your time today stanne. You must be the keeper of opinions and thoughts today. I did n’t know. You’ll have to find mercy in your soul for an old idiot like me.

Very interesting thoughts. I have heard of Pregnant women that clearly did not want to bear their child. These are the the very ones that usually opt to kill them. I’m going to reread your post.

Yes, fully functioning methylation is vital to ridding the body of all the environmental toxins that we encounter. From all I’ve learned a simple test at birth would allow new parents the opportunity to make an informed choice on how to proceed with a vaccine schedule. The MMR for instance could easily be delivered in three doses over time rather than in one shot. If I had this information some years ago, I’m certain my life would be different.

May not be far off. I have a friend who has two Autistic children. One severely, totally non verbal with motor skill issues and a daughter who is semi verbal, has no motor skill issues and test out above average IQ. Her friends include two families with kids on the spectrum who are in college. I’m not convinced there is a connection between her son and her friends’ son and daughter.

I will take issue with one thing though. While there may be money for research, the money for the families and schooling/treatment is very limited at least in Indiana. It is a huge financial burden on the families dealing with this.

At this point, rational, objective consideration of the condition will never occur.

The comments on this thread demonstrate that.

I have a son with ASD. My doctor brother-in-law stated that many feel the rise is due to the fact that many women are having children at an older age. Therefore, the eggs that (finally) get impregnated are old and degenerating.

It makes total sense to me.

And mothers being gone for well over 70% of the child's awake life.

May not be the out and out cause, but probably results in symptoms being far worse. A good mother interacts with her child in the first couple of years in a way that no one else will ever do.

I realize more cases are being diagnosed. There were several items listed as responsible including the clear familial links, environmental pollutants, especially in air, etc
