Causes of Autism

Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Given the complexity of the disorder, and the fact that symptoms and severity vary, there are probably many causes. Both genetics and environment may play a role.

Genetics. Several different genes appear to be involved in autism spectrum disorder. For some children, autism spectrum disorder can be associated with a genetic disorder, such as Rett syndrome or fragile X syndrome. For other children, genetic changes (mutations) may increase the risk of autism spectrum disorder. Still other genes may affect brain development or the way that brain cells communicate, or they may determine the severity of symptoms. Some genetic mutations seem to be inherited, while others occur spontaneously. Environmental factors. Researchers are currently exploring whether factors such as viral infections, medications or complications during pregnancy, or air pollutants play a role in triggering autism spectrum disorder.

The proliferation of vaccines for any and all childhood diseases goes way to far. Smallpox was a given due to its deadliness. German measles too as they caused birth defects to the unborn.

I do believe there are a cadre of childhood diseases that vast majority of children weather and in turn, I believe, are stronger for experiencing them.

I took my first and last flu vaccine in 1999. I am still fighting the effects of.

Vaccines should be used judiciously

You need to look up the definition of anecdotal evidence. Car wrecks kill about 40,000 people annually.

Also due to the widening of the “Autism spectrum’. The definition of autism in the past was much, much narrower.

I also understand that in the past, kids with the most severe form of Autism were labeled as “retarded”. Kids on the other end of the spectrum were labeled as weird, trouble makers, anti-social…

FWIW after my niece had her triplets, being born premature and being multiples, they were a bit delayed in their development, talking and walking, and that is not unusual. They had two “Early Intervention” specialist who would come to the house once or twice a week, one for speech and one for physical therapy. Most of the were good and helpful but one tried to label one of the girls as being Autistic.

Why? Well when Lili got tired of her sisters taking her toys and sometimes hitting or biting her (toddlers are like that sometimes), she’d go off to a quiet corner and play by herself. She also liked organizing things, for instance she would sort blocks by color and or size or gather up all the animal toys and play with them rather than playing with a variety of different toys at the same time.

For these behaviors (the going off by herself to play and the fascination with organizing and sorting things) the one specialist told my niece that she thought Lili was Autistic and should get further testing and additional therapy.

I told my nice that I thought it was a sign that Lili was actually quite smart, and I was right, she is. Now 9 years old, she is not at all Autistic but she does march to her own beat, she’s a bit of a tomboy and seems to have inherited her father’s love of all things mechanical, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Hormonal birth control started in 1957. The government got in the act to make it common and affordable in 1965.

I’m talking about extreme cars I’ve seen, know of personally. This article obfuscates that

I know a lot of kids who will never even move out of their parents’ homes, much less have independent lives

I’m not talking about people who have OCD or relationship problems, problems keeping up in school

Don’t waste my time

Check out 3rd world countries where kids don’t get vaccinated and they die like flys from infectious disease and yet those that survive also have autism.

My parents did not tolerate any deviation from what they considered “normal” behavior. So really it was kinda trained out of me. I’m 61, and parents were not as in tuned with that stuff.
The only thing my mom did indulge me me in was food issues b/c she wanted me to eat. I was a tiny kid.

Well, as with all things, the obvious first step is to Follow The Money. ‘Autism Speaks’ has become extremely influential, and are right up there with the Susan G. Komen Foundation (Breast Cancer) with getting money out of the Feds (which is You & Me!) and private donors. Squeaky wheel? Grease!

‘Autism Speaks’ has been at it since 2005. By 2010 they had ‘diagnosed’ 1 in every 88 kids has some form of Autism. They contribute $200 million a year through private donations, as well as getting $231 million from the Feds (again, You & Me) since 2006! The original founder has died, but her husband and their wealthy, WELL PLACED, INFLUENTIAL Board of Directors carry on. They are basically a Lobbying Group.

https://www.disabilityscoop.com/2017/08/01/federal-panel-autism-doubled/24000/

I am not saying this is wrong - I am saying this is what has happened with this ONE particular ‘disease’ group of Lobbyists.

One more thing:

How much money does the CEO of Autism Speaks make?

In 2013, Autism Speaks CEO’s salary was $371,000. The organization spent about as much on entertainment, travel, and catering as they did on grants for family services. Autism Speaks spent over $52 million on advertising. It was their largest expenditure. Apr 30, 2015

Google is your friend. Sometimes. ;)

No doubt, some of them were autistic. I suspect you have done well and other family members have done likewise. I grew up doing the dirty work on the farm in the Midwest. I sweat so much hauling hay in the summer heat my clothes, all them soaking wet, including my leather work boots.

I investigated an infant death in the Army. Six month old son of an NCO couple. He was their ‘miracle baby’ since they were older and had been trying to have a child for years. The couple was very popular in the neighborhood and it seemed the whole neighborhood had turned out to comfort them. We had to pull the parents aside to interview them. The situation deteriorated quickly thereafter. People were very upset. It was an unattended death so we had to follow protocol. Their neighbors were very upset we were questioning grieving parents. The neighbors were also grieving. What a sad scene. Thank goodness it was a military community otherwise we’d have had problems.

The boy died the night of his six month vaccination. I was assigned to interview the Army hospital nurse who administered the vaccine earlier in the day.

The vaccine was the MMR.

It all went normal, nothing of note, perfect vitals, no known conditions, etc. At the end of the interview I asked the nurse if she thought the vaccine had anything to do with the baby’s death. She became anxious, then in a low voice, almost in a whisper said “we’re not supposed to talk about that”.

Boys are more likely to be labeled as autistic. Public schools are geared for little girls who are willing to sit down and be quiet. When boys act differently than girls in the classroom, the teacher labels the boys with autism or attention disorder. We know what happens next...mind-altering drug prescriptions for the boys.

The smaller you make the box labelled "Normal Behavior," the more people can be labelled "Abnormal." Someone benefits from this, but I don't think it's usually the recipient of the label.

When the daily World War II thread was running, I remember reading in early 1944 that the Selective Service Board had redone its criteria to include more people with diagnosed mental conditions. I posted, "My son Patrick has just gone from 4F to 'that supply guy everyone wants'." Pat's a sorter (alphabetic, by color, or categories invisible to normals) and has a photographic memory. Who do you want as your cargo manager when you're loading up to invade Europe? Pat.

There are clowns out there (and perhaps even some misguided Freepers) who believe that autism is caused by one or more types of shots.

Absolutely not true!
