Mystery as monster sea creature washes up on beach after Hurricane Harvey

A MYSTERIOUS sea beast has stunned experts after it was discovered on the shore in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The freakish creature was spotted decaying on a US beach in Texas City, Texas, once the superstorm had cleared.

The monster – similar to something from horror movie It – can be seen in photos with its fangs and tail trailing across the sand.

Preeti Desai, from the National Audubon Society, found the monster lying on the empty beach.

FREAK OF NATURE: The sea beast washed up on the Texas shore following Hurricane Harvey

======================================================================

She said: “We were on a beach in Texas City and saw this thing from afar, so I got closer to figure out what it was.

“I’ve already got a huge interest in wildlife, especially birds and ocean creatures, but it was so unexpected to see it there on the beach. On first glance it looked like something from the deep sea to me."

She added: “My initial thought was it might be a sea lamprey, but when I got close I realised there was no way that was what it was, particularly based on the mouth.

ALIEN: The monster could be a tusky eel which lives in the depths of the Gulf of Mexico =======================================================================

BEAST: The creature was swept up by Hurricane Harvey which wrecked Texas

=======================================================================

“We squished it around a bit, and even turned it over but couldn’t come up with any other ideas.”

But while no-one is certain what the beast actually was, Dr Kenneth Tighe of the world-renowned Smithsonian National Museum of National History thinks it may be a fang tooth snake-eel.

The creature –also known as a husky eel – is native to the Gulf of Mexico and lurks beneath the surface where it feasts on bony fish and crustaceans.

If it is indeed totally eyeless then it’s no tusky eel or fang tooth snake eel

They have eyes

Three feet long -- max.

Texas city is almost 100% fine, sandy beach soil -- very little rock. There's not a rock, clay clump, or shell on that beach as big as your fist.

The footprint nails the scale down pretty well. IMO, It's the "Monster" hype that makes the mind try to see the dead critter as huge...

Decomposition makes for weird sea creatures. We’d be better off with just the skeleton smell wise as well as for identification.

I love real scientists. They just say it like it is and dont hide behind doublespeak, euphemisms, and long words like lawyers, politicians, and bureaucrats do. “Squished it around” is simple and clear and not something you have to decipher or ask to be explained like with a college professor or politician.
