FR is under attack. Took me 30 minutes at least to get back to this thread.

The liberal antichrist Obama and HilLIARy supporters are at it again.

Yep, I was born and raised in Fresno County where summer temps were 100 AND above. Lived here since 1954 we have learned to select & grow crops that do well here...

Bounty from the garden, today. Zukes, cukes, beans, peppers, a few paste-type tomatoes and FINALLY a color other than YELLOW on the Gladiolus!

I was just south of you, in Kern county, before making the great escape. I still wonder at times if we should’ve gone the N Ca route instead. Especially when the weather here is not 55-65 degrees, lol. If that area was in a conservative state, it would’ve been an easy choice. But I can always move back if things change, right? At least for a short while, before I get too old!

Nothing like an FR slowdown to make me MORE paranoid!

German Butterball has GOT to be my favorite tater, ever! We had SO MUCH RAIN that I was very afraid my taters would rot in the ground, but through some Miracle From Above, we dug some last week and they are fine. They are a bit ‘scabby’ which makes NO sense as we’ve never grown potatoes in that spot before, but still perfectly edible.

LOTS of ‘Honeynut’ Butternut squash on the vine and the melons are loving all the WET and the HEAT of the past two weeks. It’s really nice to be able to breathe with my nose and lungs again, versus having to use my gills, LOL!

Can’t you make Tequila out of Yucca? I make wine from Dandelions here in Wisconsin. ;)

Nice - I sure wonder if my plants are making Jalapeno or Serrano peppers - I had them marked but it’s so overgrown it’s gonna be hard to tell.

Must be 50 plants in a small box - like 2.5 feet by about 4 inches - yeah, I overdid it this year.

They’re almost all over 2 feet tall, too. Been hit with official scrap fertilizer (packaged), Miracle-Gro for veggies and some Epsom Salts.

Most of the Serrano / Jalapeno are small but I have one kinda like your basket there. Plus 2/3 of the plants in that box are green/red/yellow/orange peppers.

I had three of them attacking a Sungold tomato growing in a pot on the deck. I have been VIGILANT and have not seen any in the regular garden. So far!

With this wet season, we’re seeing more icky bugs than we have in other seasons, but those GROSS Hornworms are the WORST!

I picked them off (they held on for all they were worth!) with inside-out ziplock bags, and then I left them in the sun to ROAST. They were 3”, 4” and 5” long! *SHUDDER*

Gawd, I HATE THEM!

The tomato plant survived and is providing us with a lot of tomatoes; I LOVE being at the TOP of the Food Chain! :)

My peppers (except ONE plant) are doing terrible this year. We’ve had too much rain, 6.5” OVER normal, and they don’t like that. :(

I love tomatoes so much that I would even pick hornworns off by hand. I did that with our gypsy moth caterpillars that were on our crabtrees and ornamental blue spruce this spring. They’re not nearly as disgusting as hornworms, but they are sticky and quick. I drop them into a large plastic Planter’s Peanuts container filled with cold, soapy water. It has a large mouth. They seem to die very quickly.

Tomatoes. I love them!

I try to do things organically or by hand whenever I can, too! I have a pretty strong stomach, but those Hornworms get to me every time. *SHUDDER*

Did anyone notice that I didn’t ask Beau to handle them for me? I get Extra Gardening Points for THAT for sure! :)

It's not easy with three dogs that eat everything!

You do get points! :)

You are brave picking them off. I will cut the branch they are on and either stamp them up on the concrete of put them in a coffee can (without touching them of course) and seal up the can and throw it in the trash. Let them suffer!

Nice basket you have there. Stuffed jalapenos for dinner tonight and a green bean casserole.

Not enough rain here. Thought they’d like the heat. Survived tough as nails last year. This year, so crowded, they need water 2 or 3 times a day.

Cooling off by at least 10 degrees or more. Maybe that will help. Still have two pots in the garage. Cherry tomatoes an d California Green Peppers - lost one plant but save a small pepper. He went into the pan-fried, oven-roasted rib-eye steaks I just made. Finally broke my steak streak. Been over 2.5 years. Woohoo

Pan-seared with white onions, bit of green pepper, soy sauce, italian dressing, salt, garlic salt, pepper, lemon pepper, ketchup, a bit of BBQ sauce, some parsley flakes. Then roasted in the oven at 350 for 30-40 minutes.

With a side of frozen peas and carrots, leftover potatoes from the roast in the fridge, and some 33 cent WM corn on the cob.

(burp)

I think there are 22 conservatives here in Benderville and thousands of brain dead liberals but we grow the greatest green dope in the world...

Carry a pair of scissors and snip those big worms in half. Your Glads and Veggies look great...

LOVE!

Gardeners are the BEST - we love the Land, we love our Families...but we love our pets beyond all reason. :)

Unless they dig up the garden... ;)
