National anthem protests were the top reason that NFL fans watched fewer games last season, according to a new survey released by J.D. Power.
The pollster said it asked more than 9,200 people who attended either one football, basketball or hockey game whether they tuned into fewer games and why. Twenty-six percent of those who watched fewer games last season said that national anthem protests, some of which were led by Colin Kaepernick, were the reason.
After that, 24 percent of those surveyed who said they watched fewer games said they did so either because of the league's off-the-field image issues with domestic violence or with game delays, including penalties.

It’s the image. ESPN was only to excited every football game to see if Colin and company would sit down or kneel during the anthem, then show the highlights. Now they are actively trying to find a team to employ him.
My other reasons to quit watching NFL:
1. Game too long (who has the time)
2. Lack of respect sitting during anthem, language, behavior
3. Repetition of plays, replays
4. Commercials repeated constantly
5. Stoppage, challenges, reviews, etc. kill momentum
6. Awful analysis
7. Politics. Sports are an escape from politics - why inject them into the game? Looking at you ESPN.
8. No personalities in the booth - EPL has colorful commentary, Dandy Don used to sing Monday Nights. It's just too dry anymore, too distilled and "corporate."
I enjoyed many years watching the NFL, but I'm done. They are going the NASCAR route.
Mike Vick hired by the Chiefs. Bye bye Chiefs.
Yeah, but it’s better than the pros....
College players are also being arrested left and right.
I went to an office party last night held at a bar & grill. Muted TVs all over the place. ESPN on several of them with wall-to-wall Kaepernick coverage.
The guy isn't even on a team but ESPN thinks he merits continuous face time.
The joke will be on TV broadcasters. Because if soccer takes over there ARE NO commercial breaks.
Weird comment. Only about 5% of NFL games are on ESPN.
Too many penalties that disrupt the flow of the game.
If there is a big play, you can guarantee there will be a flag and it won’t count.
When the announcers says with amazement “And there are no flags!” you know there are too many penalties.
And too many stoppages for commercials.
And every single play where there’s an incomplete pass, the receiver signals to the ref to throw a flag.
I would make it so that any receiver that does that, gets a 15-yard penalty.
Then don’t watch...I really don’t care whether you watch either one...
We watch sports to escape from the 24/7 news cycle. Even if couple hours away from “the issues” can refresh us. But when you go to that safe place for fun and escape, and in the first 10 minutes you are confronted with “politics”...it proves there is no escape...so why tune into sports?
I’ve never heard politics intrude on an MLB game listening to the local radio play by play broadcasts. I’ve listened to a lot of different ones on SiriusXM.
MLB doesn't. But, many teams do, with more every year.
The Cardinals haven't, yet. But, this year was the 27th(!) annual "Christian Family Day." After that game, players and fans can stay at the ballpark for special events including a featured speaker (typically a current or former player).
I always said when (not "if"; we know it has to happen) they ever decide to have a "Pride Day", they really ought to announce the date BEFORE any tickets go on sale. I'm thinking of the poor schlub who scrimps and saves to take his family to ONE game each season and, sometime after he buys his tickets, the team comes out and picks THAT game for "Pride Day." What a deal that'd be, huh?
Well, guess what. On June 23, the Cardinals did just that. They announced their first Pride Night will be Friday, August 25. The good news is, that caused a firestorm on social media.
I just hope StubHub is overrun with a glut of available tickets. And I pity the poor schlubs who got blindsided by this travesty.
