Samson resident Wade Seago knew something was up outside of his home last week when the family's pet schnauzer, Cruiser, started barking constantly. The Seagos live on 100 acres in the rural south Alabama town. The property and surrounding area is teeming with wildlife so it's not unusual for their dog to bark at deer, raccoons or other wild visitors.
But this was different. As he was about to get up and check on his dog, his daughter began screaming. "I jumped up to see what was going on," Wade explained. "I looked out the back window and saw nothing, so I ran to the front of the house where my daughter was looking out the window. I couldn't believe what I was seeing."
The dog had a huge wild hog bayed in his front yard, about 5 yards off of the front porch. "Cruiser had this huge hog confused with all of the barking and movement," Wade continued. "It was not a good situation."
Seago is an avid deer hunter and runs a taxidermy business in Samson. He was also a prison guard for several years. He told me that hogs are abundant in the area and he has seen them on his property before, but none the size of this one.
Wade was afraid the huge hog would injure or kill the family pet so he grabbed a .38 caliber revolver that he keeps for home defense and went out on the front porch.
"By the time I got in a position to shoot, the hog was about 12 yards away," Wade said. "Cruiser was out of my line to the hog so I fired."
It took three shots to take him down. The giant hog hit the ground near the carport.

Yeah, the article’s author explained it in the comments section. I just felt like being juvenile about it. LOL
This is not a fail-safe test --but-- is pressing into the flesh LEAVES a dent -- trichinosis, pretty much for sure.
If not leaving a dent -- does not 100% equal not trichinosis (which is why the test is not fail-safe).
It is called androstenone, boar pheromone, attracts females to males from the distance of up to two miles. Humans, especially females, are also sensitive to it’s smell. Close relative of other steroidal hormones, but more volatile because of its chemical structure.
I was totally in the dark about this type of animal——and then I saw “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” last year.
It took place in New Zealand and it was a wild boar-——I was stunned at the size, and the ferocity.
.
Since he kept the weapon for home protection it was probably a .38 special loaded with plus p rounds. Those .38 plus p rounds are like a .357 magnum. Still, that’s some good shooting.
Still....just wow
Oh yeah....wild hog is good eats
Yep, at least a .50 BMG. You wonder how the Pioneers did it with their .45 Kentucky rifles. Didn’t they realize they were under-gunned?
What a disappointing headline!
“Man shoots mammoth — “ Cool!!!
“...hog.” Oh.
I handload .38, .38 +P, and .357 Magnum. .38 +P is not like .357 Magnum.
Deep State would have restarted the ‘peace process’ with that hog, so as to prove that ‘diplomacy’ is always the best solution.
I looked it up and it sounds like a good flick. I hate hollywood but I like foreign and independent movies. I saw the movie has Sam Neill so it has to be good. Thanks. I will check netflix for it.

I shot regular load .357 rounds and .38 plus p in my .357 and I have to disagree with you. Those .38 plus p are pretty good. But as I said the .357 rounds I was shooting were regular target type loads. I only did this as a comparison between the two..
I didn’t know my ex sister in law was living in Alabama.
.45-70 rifles are referred to as “pig rifles” in Texas It will take down a bull buffalo with a single round at distance.
My preferred round for shooting.
Does she have tusks in her ears or her nose?
The meat is pretty gamey for most folks, but the hams are tolerable, smoked with a lot of apple and some clove.
I never found much use for the rest of it, though.
There used to be a .38/44 Outdoorsman load which was pretty close to .357 magnum. I have not seen any in a while but probably still available.
