Yeah, the article’s author explained it in the comments section. I just felt like being juvenile about it. LOL
This is not a fail-safe test --but-- is pressing into the flesh LEAVES a dent -- trichinosis, pretty much for sure.
If not leaving a dent -- does not 100% equal not trichinosis (which is why the test is not fail-safe).
It is called androstenone, boar pheromone, attracts females to males from the distance of up to two miles. Humans, especially females, are also sensitive to it’s smell. Close relative of other steroidal hormones, but more volatile because of its chemical structure.
I was totally in the dark about this type of animal——and then I saw “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” last year.
It took place in New Zealand and it was a wild boar-——I was stunned at the size,and the ferocity.

Since he kept the weapon for home protection it was probably a .38 special loaded with plus p rounds. Those .38 plus p rounds are like a .357 magnum. Still, that’s some good shooting.

I handload .38, .38 +P, and .357 Magnum. .38 +P is not like .357 Magnum.
Deep State would have restarted the ‘peace process’ with that hog, so as to prove that ‘diplomacy’ is always the best solution.
I looked it up and it sounds like a good flick. I hate hollywood but I like foreign and independent movies. I saw the movie has Sam Neill so it has to be good. Thanks. I will check netflix for it.

I shot regular load .357 rounds and .38 plus p in my .357 and I have to disagree with you. Those .38 plus p are pretty good. But as I said the .357 rounds I was shooting were regular target type loads. I only did this as a comparison between the two..

.45-70 rifles are referred to as “pig rifles” in Texas It will take down a bull buffalo with a single round at distance.
My preferred round for shooting.

The meat is pretty gamey for most folks, but the hams are tolerable, smoked with a lot of apple and some clove.
I never found much use for the rest of it, though.
There used to be a .38/44 Outdoorsman load which was pretty close to .357 magnum. I have not seen any in a while but probably still available.
